At least 30 years.
| quote: | | Except this time, Canadians (and the Yanks and the other nations in this) are in Afghanistan by the invitation of Afghan govt with strong UN resolutions (for what it's worth) |
You mean the invitation by the corrupt Afghan government with no power and filled with ex war lords?Hamid Karzi is a huge joke. Iam surprised he is still alive.
| quote: | | Sure, there is a strong, but minority that oppose what's going on in Afghanistan, but NATO is not in Afghanistan to conquer the nation, but to help out the people which is a key difference. |
Thats how we look at it but you really think the warlords or the Taliban see it this way too?
Funny thing is I recently heard that Obama wants to start talking to the Taliban. Keep in mind that these are the same people that have been killing our troops and now we are going to sit and talk to them?
This mission is huge failure.
| quote: | | The victory for NATO here is when the Afghan govt can provide and protect its own people. We're merely there to help them do this. No 'military' solution will win the war in Afghanistan |
Thats the problem that Afghan gov cannot provide or ptotect anything.
so what happens then? how long do we have to wait untill that government can provide and protect the country?
I do agree however that the military solution will not win this battle. |

And what tinpot 3rd world country doesn't have corruption?
Nobody said Afghanistan is going to be easy, or it's going to be a short mission.

Of course the Taliban doesn't want zionist crusaders in Afghanistan.
And most of the warlords probably too. Though this is more case of politics than dislike of foreigners.

I don't agree with talking with Taliban, but if Taliban is genuinely interested in a peaceful resolution and will stick by any agreements, wouldn't you want to take a chance that'll stop the bloodshed?

Hence why a lot of effort is geared towards training the Afghan military and police, and training Afghans to man their own infrastructure like schools and stuff.
I don't know how long Afghanistan mission will have to go on, but I don't see a short term solution. |

We harshly critisize americans, their military and their government DAILY. Its a national past time. So please tell me why we Canadians are so whiney on the odd occasion when it happens to us?
Seriously... this country needs to grow up |

yeah. because those Taliban types got guns and , and they don't seem to want to listen to reason
you can't create a condition for a country to rebuild without being able to have a secure environment |
Read my first post. Canada shouldn't play world hero. The military is for defensive purposes, not going in nations and forcing our ideologies onto them, and then patting ourselves on the back for doing something nice. |

Of course; ideologies should only be forced onto people by endless repetition of disgruntled and baseless one-line rants, preferably on the internet. |

I dont want to make this personal Peter, but attitude like yours allow Nazis to rule the world.
Let's sit on our ass while the world goes to hell isn't going to make the world better.
Do tell me dude, do you believe that some causes are worth dying for? And that we, as humans, owe something to each other? |
