doug benson is a well known comedian (the guy in the beard that gave the last word).
this was obviously a joke segment.
i am acutally suprised that doug was on fox news since he is the biggest pothead in the world.
his movie on smoking weed:

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/606908
from the article
| quote: | Fox offered up an apology a few hours later saying comments on the show were “in no way an attempt to make light of troop efforts.”
“I realize that my words may have been misunderstood. It was not my intent to disrespect the brave men, women and families of the Canadian military, and for that I apologize. Red Eye is a satirical take on the news, in which all topics are addressed in a lighthearted, humorous and ridiculous manner,” Gutfeld’s statement read. |
So, all blown out of proportion?
Just how many times has Royal Canadian Air Farce or the Mercer Report poked fun at the Yanks? |

i wasn't using it as a source to prove a point as much as to point out that other people have the same opinion..i think in the end a lot of this stuff boils down to perception and opinion...like i said...there are opinions on both sides....i'm not trying to convert anyone to my way of thinkin..but i would like to not be considered an idiot cuz i don't share the opinions of someone else.. |

| wow, how the hell can Fox have a program with so many stupid people? do they actually believe Mexican is a language? "Siesta" does not come from Mexico but from Spain. Are they really that ignorant? And they called Canadians stupid. I would personally go down to their studio and beat all of them, except Monica, with a stick. I would tie up Monica and her in the ass without lubrication. |

Considering I've had friends serve overseas since 05, just waiting for a bunch of them to come back in few weeks and having 3 people I know being wounded in action, you'd think I'd know what it is to support our soldiers.
I'm not calling you ignorant because you support our troops. I'm calling you ignorant because many left wing peaceniks form an opinion, but they had no clue.
Actually, I take that back and I'll apologize. I'm not going to call you ignorant because you may be one of few peaceniks that may be educated on the issue. I dunno for sure. I got a bit irate.
But very often I speak to left wing types and they can't even name basic facts about about Canada's mission in Afghanistan, being too clueless in their anti Yank rhetoric.
Funny how many left wing types claim to support the troops by wanting to end the mission in Afghanistan, but don't quite realize that most soldiers actually want to serve in Afghanistan, esp those reservists who sign up and volunteer and there aren't enough spots to take them all.
But I digress.
Quoting Walkom who is about credible as Taliban propaganda isn't going to support your argument.
If you want to understand Canada's involvement from political point of view, read up on UN resolutions on Afghanistan. Also NATO articles which specifically said attack on one member is attack on all members.
If you want to understand Canada's involvement from moral point of view, think about this.
If you believe that Canada should support democracy, liberty, human rights and all that stuff. You'd be in support of the mission. Because people like Taliban dont want that stuff in Afghanistan, and little girls will not get their chance for education, or to be elected in govt, or get health care, etc. |
I guess how I feel about the war depends on what I believe are the true motivations behind the it....if you believe the the true motives are what you outlined in your last paragraph..then hell ya..that is an honourable endeavour for any millitary to take on....i believe that the situation is a lot more complicated than that..
no worries..we all have our own opinions..but trust me when i say that i try to learn as much as i can about these things...i'm not some twit that watches cnn and believes that everything they spew is the gospel..;) |

the problem with Walkom is that he is plainly WRONG.
about credible in terms of talking about military as Scott Taylor, David Pugliese or Sunil Ram who are essentially amateurs trying to make a buck by saying something controversial.
when you can't get the basic facts right. well, more like omitting certain facts. like, Taliban gave aid and shelter to AlQaeda. or the fact that Saudi govt did not support Osama and his bunch, but the Taliban which is about the most 'legit' govt of Afghanistan at the time
I've debated Afghanistan issue with left wing types who actually knew what they were talking about. I didn't agree with them, though I appreciated the fact that they had more knowledge than avg peacenik types.
Walkom on the other hand, clearly talks out of his ass |

funny thing about this is that Afghanistan mission started with Cretin and supported by the Liberals and continued by Martin (who sent our boys and girls down to Kandahar from Kabul)
I can't tell you for sure what the govt's thinking is
however, I can tell you that the activities Canada is doing is geared towards assisting legit Afghan govt take control of their country and provide for their own citizens without international help eventually.
this means a lot of fighting, because Taliban and other insurgent groups dont want Kabul govt to take control. until there is security in Afghanistan, it's hard for humanitarian missions to work properly. kinda stupid trying to build a school or a hospital when Taliban just burns it down the next day
so our boys and girls do a lot of fighting. in the meanwhile, we have people that specifically try to help rebuild local infrastructure (people in CIMIC, PRT, CIDA and other NGOs) so that eventually Afghans take care of their own
send me a PM if you're interested in a bit of reading about some of activities Canadians are doing in afghanistan. most of it is not really political, but just stories of what Canada is doing in Afghanistan from avg Canadian soldier's point of view
again, sorry about the initial outburst. normally I don't take internet seriously but something just set me off |

Not addressing you directly but here is why I think Canada should be going after every terrorist scum that was involved in 9/11
I can't remember the exact number, but something like 30 Canadians died when the Twin Towers came down. That's Canadians murdered by terrorist scum.
Taliban are accessory to Al Qaeda murderers by providing aid and comfort to these pumps.
These Islamic fundamentalists teach a perverted version of Islam that has very little regard for innocent lives or human rights or anything that basic humans should have for granted.
Suicide bombings, beheading their captives and other like that have no place in Islam, yet somehow these morons think Allah will give them a pat on the back.
So I think going to Afghanistan and ripping these terrorist scum's heads off and putting down neck is perfectly valid. |
