What? H.R.1913 adds sexual orientation to the list of categories that falls under a hate crime in the circumstances listed below:
This would seem to suggest that in order to be guilty the state would have to prove that the accused intended to cause bodily injury. I would imagine that it would be rather difficult to convince 12 average Americans that a preacher stating that homosexuality is a sin constitutes intent to cause bodily injury. Now, I know David Duke agrees with you; however, most rational people wouldn't think that there is really much concern about legitimate faith leaders being charged with a hate crime for taking a position against homosexuality. I know the United States Council of Catholic Bishops doesn't seem to have any problem with this bill... in fact, the only opposition I can find is coming from Evangelical pastors and hate (er, sorry... freedom) groups.
I think it is also worth pointing out that while the US Bill of Rights does establish a Freedom of Religion your country was founded on the enshrining of inalienable rights of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" and the US is signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which gives everyone the "right to life, liberty, and security of the person." My understanding is that a right normally trumps a freedom.
Finally, homosexuality is not the rallying cry against the church in the US... the Christian lobby is. |
God bless you. |

Far be it for me to question his holiness; however, I'd say Benny has Johnny beat on theology (stands to reason as Benny more or less was the source of Johnny's theology) but has none of the people skills... and since pope is really a political position this is a major problem for him. |

For the record: I believe homosexual marriage should remain a state issue, that is the reason that America was built on a confederation of states, to allow things like this. I also believe that homosexual adoption should also be a state issue. There should be no federal involvement in any way whatsoever. Homosexuals can then have the opportunity to go to a different state that allows them those rights. If someone believes that homosexuality is an abomination they have the right to believe that and express that belief as much as people that agree with it. |
How amusing. I seem to remember some other "issues" that people used to argue should remain state issues. That did not work so well, which is why we amended to Constitution to explicitly prohibit states from denying people the equal protection of the laws.
The more things change, the more they stay the same... |

You know, if people would just do the responsible thing and abort, we would rarely have to worry about adoption to begin with. |
+ infinity
It's funny that has been mentioned because just Monday there was a girl in one of my classes who announced she was pregnant. Considering her bad situation, curiosity got the best of me and I asked "Are you going to go through with it?" and she replied "We're going to do the responsible thing and keep it," and I replied "That's not necessarily the most responsible thing". The whole room went silent and one girl looked at me in shock and said "WHAT?!" That was when someone else piped up and said "So, let's talk about something else".
Haha... I was hoping someone would challenge me on it. Bring on the abortion debate! |

Um no.
Why would I keep my mouth shut? I am not afraid to state my opinion and personally think it's better to have discussions about serious matters because a lot of people are sheep who do what they have been told by their pastors etc. and never bother to think it through for themselves. Maybe if it had been discussed further she would realize that she has the option to abort instead of go through some serious (which she will... but I suspect she is lying about the pregnancy to begin with). |

But you asked for "constructive " and now you got it. So you trivialize it and ignore it? Oy, that means there's NO possible way to argue against you. You truly are in all definitions a super fag. I hope your girlfriend shoves a fat dildo up your ass tonight because you deserve it. ;)
Meanwhile, I wonder what percentage babies who were given up for adoption were done so by heterosexual couples vs Lesbian couples / artificial insemination between a homo male and female? If I knew the answer to that (I'm just guessing right now about 99.9% to 0.1%) that statistic in and of itself would make straight people look like baby-hating dumbasses. |
