If I'm coming across that way, it's because sex in this scenario stands for something I don't want to believe: that men and women only have friendships because they want sex. The sex itself is fine, but when it's over you're left with a pretty depressing view of human interaction.

not just sex, but any thing that benefits themselves. companionship, drug connections, etc. that's why we all have friends when it comes down to it. to benefit ourselves. |

I don't believe so. Ask my ex girlfriend. She was friends with this guy, quite close "friends" actually, but she maintained just friends. Eventually we broke it off for reasons not related to him and she slept with him a few times not even like ten days after we broke up. We got back together after she promised me they were just friends, he was a rebound, she regrets it, etc. A few months goes by, everythings going super well, and out of the blue yesterday it's "omg, I love you but I have feelings for him too, I'm so sorry" and now she has lost both of us. Or at least ATM, I don't know (nor do I want to) if she's going to try and get back with him - he lives far away from us now anyways.
I have yet to have a good friendship with a girl I am attracted to unless we are in a situation where there is no chance of advancement. Examples include girlfriends of my friends and the friends and roomates of my ex. Of course I have no problem being friendly with unattractive girls, but whenever the prospect of being attracted to them creeps in, I usually screw it up.

hahah well she definitely put out a few signals to this guy but before him she was a really reliable, and even loyal gf if you could believe it. That's why I think this thread applies to her perfectly - she went in with the idea that they could just be friends and look where it got her. |

| i think the girls who sit there and insist that their guy friends don't want to them and laugh and say things like "it's not like that!" are actually the ones who totally know that it IS like that, and it makes them feel better about themselves to have a bunch of dudes around her that want to her. because really, it's safe to assume a girl like that doesn't have much personality to offer a guy, friendship-wise, to begin with, so that's all it's really about for the guy "friends" to her. |
