WHAT?

how?

the only accent he probably has is either an east coast (baltimore) accent or maybe midwestern one.

denys has an accent when he's at work, or when he's not drunk. When Denys is drunk he has no accent whatsoever...

You're not even arguing the point I'm trying to make! I clearly stated the difference between speaking with any type of accent versus how a Caucasian would speak. You said Chach speaks like a Caucasian, which he does not. At all. Zero. Not even close. He has an accent. And then you said Chach may speak differently around us, which is the dumbest thing you have ever posted.

If you heard me speak you would say I sound Caucasian, as well. Lots of white bitches do. But guess what, that's incorrect. They're just comparing me to that refugee kid from Little Havana.

Of course, man. He's not from this country. Why is this so difficult to understand for some people? :conf:

Because he does lol It's not really thick, but it does come out on certain words and his inflection on some stuff.

and people are trying to say that NO MATTER WHAT, no matter how long you live somewhere and bla bla bla, you're always going to have your first native language accent no matter what. and that's not true. chach is proof of that.

as of today this remains an open question. there is however substantial (albeit inconclusive) evidence for the intractability of foreign accent after the age of 9 from a number of studies by the likes of e. lenneberg, a. moyer, t. scover, etc. - all are big names in the language acquisition area. the thing to know is that the human ear is not a reliable instrument of perception when it comes to identifying speech deviations. so just because you don't perceive someone as having an accent, it doesn't mean that person does not actually have one. a more precise method would be through the use of waveform/spectral analysis, which would intrinsically yield much more informative results. so yes, those people probably do have an accent that you're just not receptive to.

You're using TWO people for examples Jamie. TWO. or is it three?

We've all been saying that some people lose it within years, some within 10 years and some never lose it. It always stick with you in pieces and you can't seem to grab the thought of it. So you think we're wrong when we're right and you're just stubborn. You may also be immune to chach speaking the way he does so it doesn't phase you PLUS where you live you're surrounded by Latino people so you're even more immune. I think I understand what you're trying to say but you may just be frustrated with us being right with what WE'RE saying that you think we're wrong or we don't understand or something.

how is that the dumbest thing i've ever posted renzo when several other people in here pretty much said the same thing or that it's common for their own accent to come out more when speaking to family or to others who have the same native accent?

i'm telling you right now (and i even asked my boyfriend) chach sounds like he was born and raised in america. i didn't even say the word "surfer" to my boyfriend when i asked him, and he was the one who said he kinda talks like a surfer...no spanish accent whatsoever. so it's not just me who says chach doesn't have an accent.

denys has zero russian accent when he talks to me at least. he even confirmed with me today via email that he tends to only let the russian accent out when he's drunk and around family. i've certainly never heard him have a russian accent before and that's not an easy thing to miss either. it's a very distinctive accent, even when slightly. he even said he knows he talks like a whiteboy and even has a midwestern accent more than a russian one.

i'm not arguing about that other anymore (how some people lose it, some people don't). we've already estabished that and in fact i was the first one to throw that out there and say, "let's just agree that some lost it and some dont". but now i have renzo here telling me chach has a spanish accent and i talk to the kid a lot and have hung out with him recently and i'm telling you he doesn't have one..at least when he's around me. and i have another person who says the exact same thing (my boyfriend). that chach has no spanish accent at all. and i'm actually not surrounded by spanish people at all, i'm surrounded by french canadians lol

omg where the is jenny? jenny did you notice chach sounding spanish or more like he belongs on The Hills? :stongue:
chach
What are you talking about jaime? People always make fun of my accent I used to get made fun of constantly in high school and middle school. :wtf:

i've ALWAYS told chach he sounds like a valley girl. :p he sounds like a white guy who can speak fluent spanish. lol a SPACE bouncer wouldn't let him in one night because he had a colombian passport but didn't have an accent :stongue: [and gee, since SPACE bouncers are the end-all, be-all... :tongue3 ]
