I relish the role, and your sarcastic description of it.

But at least I'm up front about it.

As for your replies, you appear to have no concept of what a judicial system is nor understand the words "due process"

quote:
Technically, none of what's outlined in the Geneva Conventions applies to lawless barbarians who hide among civilians and target whoever doesn't believe in their ed up version of Islamic law.

First of all, the supreme court ruled otherwise.

Second, who and how is it determined that someone is a "lawless barbarian who hides among civilians"?

That is the central point to my issue with this whole affair...

I don't agree with using torture on principle, but I definitely don't agree with using torture when there is a complete lack of legal and judicial framework to determine WHO some of these detainees are. Hundreds have already been let go, free, and there are several well documented cases of complete innocents being captured abroad and wrongly imprisoned and miss-treated for extended periods of time.

We have a judicial system to separate criminals from innocents in this country. I don't see why we should not have an identical or similar system to separate terrorists from innocents during a time of war.

Read it. Learn it. It will help you all remember what this republic was founded upon and how we became a great nation.

I would love to see your reaction if you had a captured friend or family member being broadcast on TV, with a machette to their neck making demands. See how quickly you'd be down with waterboarding if you knew doing it to someone in their group would lead to the location your friend/family member is being held. You can bloviate all you want about the morals and the principles and the Geneva Conventions... you're conveniently insulated from the reality of war and are nothing more than a political armchair quarterback. I'll leave you with this quote from NY Rep. Peter King:

LOL, gotta love that ticking time bomb scenario! You'v been watching too many episodes of 24...:p

I'm sure torture isn't a part of that "how we became a great nation".

haha... have you ever watched that show? You know I've never seen a single episode of that? I wanted to try to get into it because it's so hyped up, but I missed the bus and don't want to go back to the beginning. Kind of like Organic Chemistry... if you miss one class you're ed and have no desire to go back to the beginning.

I didn't say it was. I'm just saying it's a damn good book... refreshes and teaches a lot about the country's founding that has either been forgotten or wasn't taugh in school. Levin's not a Hannity... he's an actual constitutional lawyer. He kind of reminds me of the Thomas Paine of our time.

Yea I have. And one episode had the "ticking time bomb scenario" in it, in which the guy being interrogated knew something was about to happen but he wasn't saying, so the main character essentially tortures him. Too bad the chances of the "ticking time bomb" scenario occurring is practically zero and that hyping such a scenario is nothing more than fear mongering. That Peter King doesn't know what the he's talking about...

And I think 24 is nothing more than dramatized right wing propaganda. You won't find me watching that crap fest.

So what's the point in posting a book about how America became great, from a conservative perspective, nonetheless...?

But you gotta love the Left.... Waterboarding = heinous torture and completely immoral. Pulling a baby's head out of mother and sucking its brain out with long needle = acceptable alternative to contraception.

Well for your information, that baby hasn't had a chance to grow up into a non-uniform wearing terrorist with rights yet! D'uh.

Why is it that the show's stars are predominately prominent left-wingers? That always baffled me.
