It's amazing how much stuff you retain though! Now he asks me questions about stuff and I have to try and remember about the rituals and prayers and what they mean.

You know what I ing hate though? Those ing Jesus freaks that try to make you go to their mega churches after you tell them NO thank you 51685618694684 times. I mean what part of "hey no thank you I'm agnostic" do they not understand?! "but go anyways, my church is fun! im not religious, im not trying to change your beliefs but just come to my church" I mean I've BEEN to one of those churches. It's ridiculous how the pastor is yelling at everyone all this bull and everyones yelling and crying and throwing themselves on the floor and then everyone starts dancing lol. I mean if that's what they want to do then fine, whatever. But like they don't understand what "no" means.

For example my brother became one of those Jesus freaks a few years ago and ever since he's been trying to make my mother (who is catholic) go to his church. She's been catholic since birth, she likes her religion, but yet he comes in here and starts insulting her beliefs and telling her how she's going to burn in hell and her religion is bull and that she needs to go to his church in order to be "saved". That's really ing disrespectful you know? He wouldn't like it if she went inside his house and started saying that . She doesn't care that he changed his religion. None of us do really, he's an adult and can do what he wants. But I just find it so disrespectful how he comes here and threatens to throw away this saint my mom has in the kitchen and telling her all of this . those people.

Angry rose! :stongue:

No, I totally understand what you mean though. I talk with (tolerant) people who believe in other things all the time, to learn more about different religions. I'm never COME BE A JEW WITH ME! though

Judaism doesn't have much of an evangelist tradition, thankfully. Which makes it kind of funny that the two most conversion-happy religions, Christianity and Islam, are both descendants of Judaism.

haha yeah! I mean I politely tell them no thank you and yet they keep insisting. Clearly being nice with them doesn't work lol.

It's alright talking to people about your religion and stuff if they are INTERESTED in learning about it. They just need to learn how to respect other peoples beliefs. Being disrespectful like that isn't going to make her change her mind you know? LOL.

Just blare MM next time. :o

Some Christians and Muslims don't think that other belief systems are worthy of any respect. They think that other religions lead straight to hell, tell blasphemous lies about God, and need to be exterminated either through conversion or physical force. To them, tolerating religious diversity is like tolerating "diversity" on the question of whether arsenic is a good food for babies: foolish and deadly.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I'm just puzzled by the idea that any significant number of people have a "faith" or "spirituality" whose content floats free of any organized religious tradition. I think that idea is obviously false. People who have spiritual practices might reject many aspects of what they call "organized religion," and they might not go to any churches or temples, but they will still be indebted to the religions they reject for most of their ideas about spiritual beings, practices, and concepts.

That's great and all, but you missed my point. I'm not arguing that religion doesn't influence faith. I'm pointing out that people tend to look at the negatives of organized religion and, because of this, become frustrated and consider themselves to not be theists. Which makes about as little sense as ********'s posts.

Yeah, I've seen plenty of people who have a bad experience with a church, or have a falling-out with friends who go to the church, and then turn against religion and faith entirely.

For those of you that "lost" faith, did you just wake up one day and think "ok, I'm done with that" or were there a series of things that led to it?

MrJiveBoJingles
Took painful months for me.

Why'd you lose faith? (just curious - PM me if you don't want to be all public about it lol)
