Toronto is about to make life a lot more difficult for motorists... on purpose! (pg. 5)

lol.

i just don't understand bikers. they follow the rules of vehicles when it suits them and of pedestrians when it suits them. if you want to be taken seriously, don't around like that.

Guys over here, this has been the rage for the last few years... it's getting ridiculous beyond belief.

Thousands of parking spots, and road lanes have been lost for empty bike lanes!

It's a ing global conspiracy to piss of motorists and I know it sounds ridiculous. :p

Over here, less than 1% of downtown residents use a bike to get to work, 50% use the car, 20% buses. And we're rated the friendliest bike city in north america...

I agree with this. And I am a cyclist more than a driver. Militant cyclists make it worse for those of us who follow the rules and it drives me nuts.

They should convert them to snowmobile lanes 10 months of the year LOL

I like the bike lane and bike traffic signals on Maisonneuve.

umm, I saw cyclists in the vid, lol

In any case. I personally think they need to lax the bike laws. It's a ing bike, not a vehicle (as much as they love to label it as so). I'd feel like a retard buying all this special equipment (helmet, bell, knee pads, etc), and would make me not take the bike out because of all the hassles.

My bike for me is something personal, something I'm attached to. I wanna be able to just run out the door grab it, and explore the city (or go to work). Not this lame ass 30min preparation of putting my equipment on, then looking at the city maps where I'm "allowed" to bike. That's lame, let me bike anywhere, and lower the traffic so I can finally stop weaving through it.

Other than lights for at night id agree with you. If you dont wear safety equipment its your own ass and no one else's and certainly not the government. (Note to all, if i hear the health care arguement here then you are most certainly advocating for private health care insurance ;) )

You are allowed to bike anywhere already except the freeway and the sidewalks. You just have to follow the rules of the road. And no weaving! Stay to the right unless you are going to turn left and make sure you dont cut off a car when you do so. I agree with personal safety freedoms that you ask for but a bike on the road is a vehicle and subject to stop signs, do not enter signs, red lights, etc just like the rest of us. Its because of reckless biking that council is actually thinking about requiring bicyclists to have a bike license like a drivers license. Well really its money making but i digress

This is the problem. Bikes shouldn't be adapting to city driving. City driving should be adapting to bikes!

Apart from that, anyone that rides their bike on the street "properly" (not in a bike lane or a side walk) knows how insane it is. You're constantly fearing for your life because the cars are passing 3 inches away from you at 50-60km/h. It's dangerous for everyone also, because those cars sometimes slam on the breaks, or weave into the left lane to avoid the bikes. Anyone sane needs to realze how rediculous that is, and that you just can't have bikes and cars on the same road.

In fact, there is really no proper way of biking through the city, and the available bike lanes are just dismally scarce. This is why you don't see so many bikes on the road, not necessarily that driving is just that much more popular.

you CANT be serious! You do realize it snows here 7 months of the year right? And that people travel more than a few blocks?

then drive or take transit if its THAT bad! The city is not the countryside.. People move around and there are lots to move. And to be honest compared to most places ive visited that bike utopians like to dream about, our drivers are very very tame!

Yes there is. Follow the rules of the road and treat everyone around you with respect. Same advice given for drivers and pedestrians. I think biking is not popular because of snow and humid summers. Can you really expect a businessman to bike to work in an armani suit? Or a couple to go out on the town on a two seater?
