ur not enough a T-Rex to scare her :p

She tried something different, she's an artist... don't prosecute her for it. Artists do it all the time, sometimes even MORE wide-range. Shaq tries to rap, Jordan tried to play baseball.... Hasselhoff tried to sing.

All good, artists will be artists.

Mistress Barbara on the decks is absolutely incredible, caught her a few times and never disliked a show, looking forward to her playing a live DJ set on the D2DBoat. Haven't seen her play in SO long, it should be a wicked performance.

Just cause she "missed"(wit this song to some) doesn't mean she failed, let's see how it does overall.

TOTA, always quick to judge and hate....

She said she is looking forward to your party! : )

All this deejays going mainstream talk makes me feel like I'm back 5+ years ago. This isn't new.. WHO CARES?

it's def. not new for sure, just worse and more annoying then ever before. Every DJ now seems to have a gimmick (evident here in our own back yard), instead of letting their music speak for themselves. There's more & more DJs putting on concert style shows at earlier times, with all ages crowds, and BANDS, or pop acts opening for them. The Black Eyed Peas at Ultra this year (not sure if they've had acts like that in past years), but ew. Of course i have to accept it, let it go, but i still think it sucks balls. There really is an over saturation of DJs and Producers out there now, which just means more hack DJs, and more and more music.

What i've come to realize is the only way i'm still going to see good djs, playing good music, is if branch away from the bigger clubs, and start going to more of the warehouse/loft, random venue parties who book new rising talent, not the same old same old. I'm older at this point, i think i'm just at that stage in my life where i'm outgrowing "the club", esp. the club crowd. Platform, Box of Kittens, Promise and BringTheBeats have it right from what i've seen. They bring in less well known DJs, that are continuing to prove themselves behind the decks, and play what they know and what they love, not what's popular. The crowd at events is just as important as the talent i find, it can make or break a party. Which is why I have not once been able to really get into a DJ set at TIL, even though it is a beautiful club. I want to "share" the music i love with other people that love it for the same reasons as me, and who don't stand on the dancefloor and talk through the set, who know who the Djs are, and who don't just go to be seen and pose for clubs pics etc. I want to continue be to surrounded on the dance floor by EDM lovers, not just "partiers" who follow the trends. There has always been a sense of community in our scene, we always felt so lucky that we "got" EDM, whereas a lot of ppl out there don't, and never will. I just hope that isn't lost when the music makes the full blown transition into being the "it" music of the day.

hmm how'd i miss this one?

Its a meh song. nothing great about it. they might've bumped into each other sometime and said "hey lets make a track together" and this was the product (rather than the assumption that mistress barbara "wants to go mainstream")

So what if electronic is mainstream? most top 40 music is electronic anyhow.

There are so many DJs and producers that have gone into other genres or picked up a mic and done the vocals for their own tracks...look at moby, BT, etc. theres no such thing as selling out trying something different. As a musician its easy to get bored eventually of just one style and try something different just out of curiousity...

I like this song. It's not dance music, but still good music. The lyrics are super queer, but I really enjoy the melody and mood of their voices. It's easy enough to tune out what they're actually saying.

How is she going "mainstream"? Because she collaborated with another Montreal based artists who has had commercial success? This song is clearly not created with the musical palette of the masses in mind, thus any "mainstream" or "selling out" tags are silly.

Did you listen to it?...except the acoustic guitar & vocals, the entire song is electronic. The tambourine is an organic sound, but probably not a recorded tambourine. It's not techno, but can easily be called electronic.

I dont have a problem with artists "exanding their horizons" but they should be smart about it.

Use an alias or a different name so as to make yourself into different brands. When i hear the name "Mistress Barbara" I expect techno not wishy washy whatever the hell that video is LOL

Aliases in EDM are lame. It seems like every time they use a different synth, create a different vibe or use a different rhythm, they use a different name.

Although this song is different from what Mistress Barbra is known for, it's still Misstress Barbra. Why should she change her name? She's an artist. Why can't she create different styles of art? Do you change your name when you change your hair cut? Maybe you should so people don't confuse you and your new hair cut with you and your old haircut.

alternate aliases are used mostly if there is exclusivity of name usage on a label. Also, some artists use aliases so that their fans don't accuse them of selling out...lol

Singing and running at the same time looks soooo dumb.

You know what I mean.
It's not structured like electronic tracks, it has a chorus and vocals and does more than boom tss tss highhat etc. Not targeted to electronic fans at all (hence the radio time)

I understand why they use them for the "selling out", but think it's stupid.

Wasn't aware that labels had rights to some artists names though. That's a legitimate reason for an alias.

ahh...I though you were talking about the sound, which is usually what people refer to when they're talking about genre.

p.s. a lot of EDM tunes have vocals, chorus & verses :p
