Whooooaaaaa buddy. hold on now. There is no reason to start slamming on other promoters. Thats just ed up. Its also very taboo in this industry to do so. Spundae and Giant have done nothing wrong in this situation for you to bust them out that way. Lets keep it civil and fair. |
+1 not a fan of your post Loc, this isn't how people play on these boards. i have a lot of opinions of the current "circus" but i've kept them to myself and off these boards b/c it's not appropriate. giant and spundae have been exceptional promoters and have brought a ton of fun parties to LA regardless of the venue.
let's also keep in mind that the major clubs in LA often attract different people for different genres. i don't attend circus often anymore for that very reason, i'm not really into trance anymore. i do come for special occasions for certain djs or friends, such as the memorial for charles torrence on the 22nd, but to be honest, your attitude makes me not want to step back into circus ever again.
here's what has me the most frustrated with your posts and it made me get back on here and add this: you said more than once throughout this thread that just a few people had positive comments about circus and you feel, in inferencing, that more had negative things to say. have you even gone back and read the posts in this long thread? have you read post about circus over the last year?????? there have been many posts about how much fun people have had at circus and how much they love going there. way more good than negative. as i stated above i don't go there that much anymore but have always loved the space that is circus, the former promoters that worked there, and many of the clubbers and friends there along with the staff and i keep up with comments in threads on these boards about circus b/c i love to hear good things about that club. it's where my clubbing started and i have a special place in my heart for that place.
but when someone such as don, a very strong circus supporter even when many people weren't going there and he was there almost every weekend, gives some constructive criticism, you act out and disrespect people on these boards and other promoters and clubs. you were right about one thing, you won't be able to make everyone happy or please everyone, no one can do that but you have managed to turn me completely off in your response and i don't doubt others as well.
this community, i feel, has always had something special about it, that for the most part, regardless of someone's taste in music, djs, venues, etc. we were a caring group of people that love the music and love that our scene here in LA is so large and diverse and accepting of each other. and for the most part it has, these boards have allowed me and so many others the opportunity to get to know others that have the same passion about the music as well as give us a voice on suggestions, etc to clubs and promoters and as i've seen it, other promoters and clubs have either respectfully listened and either made improvements/changes or felt they were doing what they felt was best and went about their business but never came on here and slammed people for their opinions and suggestions.
i normally don't get involved in such interactions on here and usually stay neutral or out of it but i felt very frustrated by your post and disappointed in your response. my opinion, i'm sure you don't agree but i have a feeling that many others share my disappointment with your post. i hope that in the future your post will reflex your excitement for your club and appreciation for all opinions whether you agree with them or not.
sorry to rant my friends, just my 2 cents :p |

Great post!.....but in fairness, at the beginning of this thread, there were a good few complaints, the sort of stuff, that putting myself in a promoters shoes, would drive me furkin crazy.
As for trashing other promoters I don't think that's a good idea or positive for the scene or a promoter themselves - only going to cuase bad feeling and animosity
........but at the same time, I think those comments were specifically in reference to the posts made about prior inhabitant promoters at Circus during their tenure there, and he was getting bored of hearing posts in this thread and others such as "they (previous promoters) used to do this or they were great at this etc.".
I reckon he could and should have been more diplomatic, but hey that's my way of doing stuff.
I personally call charging $60 for entry on the door (Giant for instance) "treating customers like ", especially without laying on anything extra in the club apart from a big DJ, like every other club tries to on a weekly basis. The club was less than half full meaning all those people who did pony up had a lackluster night and Giant did nothing to compensate them.
Just my $0.02 :) |

I'm excited to see Jaytech coming to Circus. I found some of his tracks a couple years ago, and 'Neon Void' is one of my all time favorites.
I'd really, really like to see Thomas Bronzwaer play Circus. He would have that place rockin |

Dear Gypsy,
Just like every one on this Thread. Every one has their opinions, I wanted to express my opinion as well. Although it might have offended some people, when people criticized Circus we try our best to fix the problems. All, I would like to say is sometime we also need a break as well from the negativity. Thank you for your opinion? But rather you know it or not, we do care! This is the reason I am still up at 11:40 am trying to make things right.Or, would you want us not respond at all to the comments? ( this is what i meant, but I was typing from a blackbery while I was driving) LOVE MUSIC DANCE Thank you....

and as a promoter of a club, he should realize that this is not the first nor the last time patrons of clubs and people on these boards and others like it will give constructive criticism or even out right disrespectful complaints(not that i think that is right or what is going on in this particular thread) but that is the nature of the beast when you throw parties. i am not a promoter, not affiliated with any club, don't work in this industry, it is my fun, my entertainment and my passion so i don't have a stake in one club or venue or promoter but i do have a problem with his approach on these boards and i hope that he and everyone can respect each other and keep it to that, promoting.
the last time i was at circus the sound was too loud, reasonable complaint from those that are on here that go almost every weekend.
this past weekend i saw someone go up to the promoter of a party that i attended who happened to be djing at the time and told him that the sound was a tad too loud, which it was, there were a good number of people holding their ears, stepping away from the speakers, etc. and you know what he did, he listened to the other person, adjusted it slightly and the sound was much better and the crowd enjoyed it much more. he didn't get pissed or offended, he took it for what it was, a suggestion.
we all are allowed to have our own opinions. i hope in the future we can all be more respectful of each other. |

A message from Circus management:
Dear Trance Addicts,
Here at Circus, we sincerely believe that every customer's thoughts and feelings do matter. That is why will always be available, in front of the club, to listen to any comments people may have. Our #1 belief is that the customer is always right. While we may not always be able to make everyone happy, we will always try. On the behalf of Circus management I would like to thank everyone for their support through all the good times.

As an aside, I had always thought that if I went outside the front door at Circus I wouldn't get back in...no ins n outs, you know... Great to know someone's there listening! :) |

Then when DJ Tatana came on, the night just turned to magic...she was so deeply into the music, I don't think she ever stopped moving from the time she came on until the time she left!

Her set started off with a bit of a House feel, then really kicked in with Signalrunners' "Meet Me in Montauk"and ended on the other side with what I would call Tech Trance...some of those wavy, warped sounds that just made the whole floor go crazy! Like much of Switzerland, a camera cannot do Tatana justice...you must see the video which I will post soon. :)
Good crowd all the way until the end of her set, which came so fast I just couldn't believe it. Seemed like Tatana was just getting warmed up when the next DJ came to take over. I noticed her signal "just one more" and "is it time to go?", so I think she easily could have closed the night! Also very cool to run into Matt Cerf and Jaren on the dance floor!
Was an amazing, fun filled night, I think DJ Tatana will be back soon! |

The vibe was so good last night!
I thought it would be kinda dead with WMC going on, but I lost count of the number of TA's that I ran into, was outside so much talking with everyone and then all of a sudden JOOP showed up!
Since either the crowd was very friendly or we had all showered in the morning, JOOP even hung around with us before and after his set, we walked out the door with him when security said the club was closed! :)
Moving on to the best part though, the music! Easily one of the best sets I've heard this year, the energy in the room was so contagious...just a look around and almost everyone was dancing with big smiles on their faces!
After about 2 hours, I thought JOOP's set would be ending and I was getting ready to head outside for a world famous quesadilla, but then he and Fei Fei went tag team for at least another hour! Great DJ, great crowd, great times, see you again soon JOOP! :D |

Main Trance room was the most crowded I've seen since some of the bigger name European DJ's have visited. I really don't understand why someone like Paul, Armin, Ferry, Tiesto, Digweed doesn't come there and spin on the side stage with the curtain open. I'm sure there would be 3,000 people easy. Some people complain about the sound, but it couldn't be any worse than when Armin played outdoors downtown a couple of years ago, and I'm sure is a lot better than at least half the other clubs they play at across America.
Would be great to have Martin Roth back again too, feels like being at a club in Berlin when that German Techno goes off! :D
Oh yeah, the guestlist people were very easy going too, they actually thanked us for coming out when I handed them the fliers! Cole was back too, so lots of bear hugs at the door. :) |

Yeah, Martin tore it up! :D The last half hour of Mike Koglin's set was really filled with some intense Techno too! Was on the floor almost the whole time since I got there, just a little before Egil came on. Also great to see so many TA's representing Nikita!

Was a such a great night of music, got there just in time for Egil's set and heard a lot of killer tracks the whole night. Went to the back room for awhile and couldn't leave...best dark progressive house music I've heard since last time Digweed was here! From the timeslot lineup, I believe the DJ was Brian Scott. |

Kristina's set was pure joy, Mike Foyle's was nice at the beginning but then went too hard for me, and Martin Roth's set was just insane! So much energy and he kept everyone on the floor until 4, even played another "outro" song after they told him to stop...lol, GO MARTIN! I'm looking forward to seeing this amazing German DJ back in LA very soon! :D

I actually think that Johan's a pretty brilliant DJ: amazing energy, good track selection and special effects that I hear few DJ's every try to attempt. Plus his set was being recorded live for his "In Session" radio show which is broadcast in Holland, so we should all be able to d/l his mix soon and listen for ourselves.
On top of being a good DJ, Johan's very down to earth too, signs everything, takes pictures and even talks with people who don't have backstage VIP passes!

Interestingly enough, I really enjoyed Remy's set! Yeah, it was mellow (probably had to be for warm-up), but the tracks were such good quality and there was plenty of room to dance. The look in his eyes seemed something between disbelief and wonder that so many people were really into his set that early in the evening!
Met a lot of TA's and was fun dancing with everyone up front, though I needed another drink after the experience of taking what seemed to be the last of 20 or so parking spaces in the second lot at 9:15 p.m., then getting upset over how huge the line was, only to realize that pre-sale was the line to the left with about 3 people in it! Airport security was a breeze this time, much more friendly than in the past, maybe Avalon proved it could be done that way?
Snuck over to the side just before Interstate started playing so was all the way up front and got some really good pics! Interstate played a great live set, really different music, but guess that's what makes it even more memorable. One of the band member's guitar straps was bright yellow and said "police line - do not cross," very funny!
Made it back over to the main stage just before Armin came on, and everyone was going crazy, yet I was (really) surprised how peaceful and nice the crowd was. Didn't experience any pushing or shoving, but maybe I was just standing in the wrong place (two from the front??)
Seemed like Armin's set was over in 5 minutes, so I must have really liked it! Very high energy crowd too, which must have been a big adrenaline rush! "Shivers" really went off, I know it's getting played a lot, but I still think this is such a great track. Was just weird not seeing Armin close the night, I think he has every other time I've seen him, but I had no problem once Piet fired up the decks!
Rank 1 held almost everyone on the floor until 4 a.m.! I loved it when Piet played "Lyteo," it's such a "grand" sounding track and fit in very well with the large crowd. I also know that Piet posted right here on the TA forum a few weeks about how everyone deserves to have their own opinion about music, and I agree that it makes the world a better place. I shook Piet's hand at the end of his set and thanked him for posting here on the TA forum. I even saw Armin walking around behind the DJ booth halfway through Rank 1's set and he was taking pictures with the lucky few that had figured out he was there!
As for a rumor about Tiesto renting out the space for the rest of the night, doubt it's true due to city codes that make the clubs shut down at certain hours, but guess if he's living here now anything is possible?
I even ran into Holly Adams and DJ Izz in the back room while trying to find my friend, and it almost felt like I was back at GrooveRadio for awhile! All in all, an excellent evening, many thanks to DJ Remy, Interstate, Armin, and Rank 1 (and all the others I didn't have time to see) for such a good time! :D
