So i have been noticing that a ton of DJ's, European promoters and people in general are calling Vegas the EDM capital right now in America.
Am I the only person that doesn't think it is?

DJs always lineup for the pool parties and all that stuff for Vegas every year.
Outside of that, the argument I ever hear abotu the EDM capital is LA vs SF (LA is exploding while DJs/producers are moving to SF as a lot think it might be the next Berlin)...I've never really heard anything about Vegas...in fact, it's usually negative things you hear about Vegas. |

I guess its mainly a BBC thing then.
But I have heard DJ's mention that it is the capital of EDM right now currently. |

It is for sure. There is a lot of people in Las Vegas that have it in their blood and it's their passion.
If you look at everyone producing these events you can see the direct link.
AND it's only going to get better. |

| I definitely have to disagree with that.. every time I go to vegas I know the only club I can find EDM usually is Rain at the palms. In the summer the pool parties bring in the big dj's so i guess thats why it could seem that way. But its so annoying because if you go to those parties 75% of the people there have no idea who the dj is..they are just in vegas to party. I think LA, san fran, miami all have a great edm scenes. |

There has obviously been a lot of growth in Vegas the last year or two. Especially in the last year. Giant has a weekly there now. Spundae throws a monthly focused on locals, Oakenfold has Saturday nights at Rain, etc.
So maybe that's what's making DJs take notice...the growth. It was two years ago when DJs started talking about the big growth in LA. Maybe it's just Vegas' turn right now.
This all said, Vegas has a lot more growth to go before being called the EDM Capital.
And I think the people as well as the parties themselves determine whether or not that city should be called the EDM Capital. You gotta see the passion from the people. And you don't really ever hear about the passionate Vegas crowds...
That all said, Vegas could be very big for the scene overall so I hope it does continue to grow. No matter what the EDM Capital is we'll all have plenty of acts come through all our areas.
Maybe Vegas has the chance to become like the Ibiza alternative in the US, haha. Just there's gambling allowed, and instead of beaches you got pools! :p (Not sure if I'm serious about this lol).

| Vegas has a lot of potential. It just has to been done right. From what i've seen on the 3 day weekends is definitely a good start. |

Vegas on it's best day doesn't have a patch on Ibiza.
Yes, there are parralells, such as the relaxed rules or lack of them, a collective party atmosphere and some of the music but the same or even as good?
No way. Any Dj that says that doensn't know what they're talking about and IMO, took all the wrong things from the island.
Vegas suffers too badly from D-bag and slut-bag over-infestation, over commercialization, but the main thing it lacks is the spiritual element that ibiza has. You can't quite put you're finger on it's there and you feel it.
Vegas - you can't wait to leave after 3 days, and ibiza - you're crying because you've got to go home after weeks.
Vegas is like Ibiza's ugly, overindulgent and tacky younger cousin. Fun, most definitely, but not the same experience.
As for BBC, which is probably my main source of media these days, they;re saying that because the UK EDM scene is completely dead and with the economy down, Brits just aren't flying to expensive Ibiza....but they will go to the states because it's still cheap with the exchange rate and it's something different.
Vegas also follows trends, it does not set them. It goes with what's cool and does what others do but does it in a bigger way, which is great and unique, but it's not a pioneer in that respect.
If you ask, me (and I'm biased) LA is EDM capital at the moment. On any given weekend, you can see a top progressive, trance or house DJ in either a big superclub setting or a small intimate venue.
I swear to god, it's like being back in the mid 90's in London all over again :D |
