Why you following Rich? I've witnessed you glowstick at a club before

:haha: :haha:

I'm not laughing that you glowstick, it's just amusing that you would say that when I've seen you glowsticking at a club

Never said I never glowsticked. Just I was never too good at it like my friends were. As far as I remember I had those globes, and a bunch of photons.

I don't care for glow sticks, but also don't mind them.. However it seems like glowsticks are HUGE at Los Angeles Clubs.. Look at this video

The only time that I seen that MANY glowsticks at a CLUB was when Blurr had his MIDNIGHT glowstick ceremony a few years back at 1015..

Remember David??

Get off your high horse and stop thinking that you're better than everyone else or speak for everyone in that it's annoying or unwanted.

There's a lot of skill, practice, and sometimes a little bit of creativity in glowsticking and stringing when done well, and many appreciate the dancing even when sober.

If your "experience is ruined because the glowing light bothers you" then venture to a place where it's not allowed, wear a blindfold, or just learn to chill out. It's not like people are shining leds directly in your eyes, and if they are, it's their bad for being inconsiderate s.

add what you want to your experience to the extent that you don't detract from others'. the only people who appreciate glow sticks are the glow stickers and the zombies that stare at them. to everyone else who is there to appreciate the music for the music and is capable of doing so without light shows, it ruins their experience because it's quite hard to ignore a glowing light being waved around in a dark room or the faces being illuminated by them, much like it's hard to ignore a hairy naked man with a greased up hard-on dancing next to you at lovefest.

wow. i am just shocked, shocked to the core that someone who's a regular at circus, monster massive and nocturnal, with a gf that runs a rave toy store, would object to my views about glow sticks... wow. let me take a moment to soak this in...

While I don't think it ruins an experience, it's a flat out distracton to most people out there. Not sure if you notice, but at clubs most people don't have glow sticks and all that stuff......and there's a reason.

It's flat out annoying to those trying to enjoy the music and all when peeople with glow sticks (or other lights)are dancing all around swaying their glow sticks (or other lights) everywhere, getting all in your way just becasue that person has to show off his skills with the glowstick, it's a distraction and can be annoying.

And I think it's been said that not everyone comes in with the lights and dances with them in the wrong way or for the wrong reasons, but it's enough for the common person out there to assume a reason behind a person having them, it's distracting.

If you think most people don't think that, then you are kidding yourself.

Circus is a venue that's big enough where people can do it out of the way in back or on the sides and stuff. That's fine. As long as you stay out of the main dance floor...way out of the way. But that's still not gonna keep people (suppopsing Circus isn't 90% zombies still as it was the last few times I've been there for the whole night) from thinking the same.

Fact is, if you aren't one of these people who get in the way, are annoying, are usign the lights for no good reason otehr than to dance with lights/glowsticks, that's awesome. But you better just expect the negative perception the average person has when they see you doing it.

I guess you don't understand that it's one issue to hate glowsticks as an opinion, which is ok, but something else to say that everyone shares your opinions in hating them or stereoyping that all people are stupid kids ed up on something when watching/enjoying dancers or dancing.
DaveT
I would say the discussions I've had since the day I stepped in the club would say that it's the general opinion...you know, the perception of the majority of people.

And there are COUNTLESS circles of people in clubs where you see glowsticks and/or lights getting their light shows on througout the night. That's where the stereotyping comes in.

I don't stereotype those people. But people out there in the world (you know, the non-TAs...the non-hardcore clubers) do. Those are the people that are MOST IMPORTANT to a club's survival. Not the same crew who comes every week or almost every week. They are the reason why you see them getting banned in more and more clubs. Maybe it's contributes to the reason why some clubs go on spurts of getting good crowds every couple years with some good promotion, new blood, etc then loses that crowd. Maybe because those casual clubbers don't want to go back because what they see gives them a negative impression of the crowd in general and just don't want to go back.

I actually like Ruby Skye's policy (which oddly enough, I didn't even know they had one regarding lights until I read it on yelp just today lol)...they allow glowsticks and all and dancing with glowsticks, but they don't allow light shows and you can even be kicked out for it...I think. Just what I read....which makes sense. See them in there all the time, and don't recall ever seeing too many light shows. I think that's a good fair rule that lets the fun come in and keeps the perception out.

I yeah, I do like what Circus did at The Thrillseekers with the sticks. But that was to enhance the experience. And it was obvious. That was cool.

i guess you don't understand that circus is an extreme outlier in clubland and is more characteristic of a 21+ rave than a club by any measure of comparison. that the commonly held view on glowing rave toys at circus is not shared anywhere else in this country, hemisphere and probably world. so while glowing rave toys are probably a hit with your glowing rave toy store customers and glowing rave toy circle of friends, in the rest of the world, and especially in san francisco, the overwhelming majority of the crowd at any club on any given night would rather not see them at all. i think given the range of parties i go to and the range of parties you go to, i can speak for more people than you.

i just don't understand the plurr/rave culture and why it has to be grounded in blatant symbols of childhood regression with the colorful candy bracelets and necklaces, blinking rings and pacifiers, spongebob and pokemon backpacks, mickey and mj gloves, face paint, hair dye, glowing toys that without the aid of drugs would only impress a 6 year old. why? why can't you just be 18-20 and enjoy the ing music like an 18-20 year old? moreover why do i see 21+, even 30+ old people carrying that torch? the ing 30 year olds chewing on blinking pacifiers, my god have some dignity! can someone explain this fascination with behavioral regression? is it a personal taste or a yearning to be accepted by peers? i'm not saying don't dress up and be festive, but when deciding on a theme please stick to your age group. the burners know how to do it right, in their own way.
