Think of the last good Keanu Reeves performance you saw.

Devils Advocate? Thought he did a pretty decent job in it. Worst acting with him in it...Dracula. OMG.
Best
Al Pachino-Scent of a woman/devils advocate/dog day afternoon
Denzel Washington-Courage Under Fire/Man on Fire/ Philadelphia/ Glory/Fallen. Was trying to recollect a denzel movie I haven't fully enjoyed. Maybe pelham 123 but thats it.
De Niro-Heat
Cruise-Last Samurai/ Collateral. I know I know. A lot of people hate cruise but his performance in Last Samurai was solid. Same with Collateral. A different role then he normally does and I thought he just ran with it the whole movie.
DeCaprio-Catch Me if You Can/The Aviator/ Blood Diamond was amazing but didnt think his acting was to his normal level.
Worst-
Hayden christensen-Anything he does.
Nicholas Cage-ONce good but now only does .
Ben Affleck-Again most movies. Thought he was only good in Dogma.
and finally
Mark Wahlberg-Now does he blow. I have never seen him in a movie where i believe his acting. Just so transparent. Same dull faces and reactions. Again if I had to pick worst actor it would either be him or Hayden. But I think Wahlberg takes the cake b/c he still gets bigger box office movies despite his ty acting. Only good thing he's done with his name is Entourage.

Best overall movie
Pans Labrynth.-This is just off the top of my head but just a great movie overall. Great acting, intense and the cinematography was just surreal at points. Del Toro did a great job directing. Esp in the commentary when he says he lost 50 pounds and almost keeled over due to the stress and involvement he had in the movie. That kind of attention to detail and dedication is what seperates the crappy directors from the betters ones.
Most Overated Actor-
Jamie Foxx. This guy. Idk. Thought Ray was truly an awful movie. Didn't even make it through. Only movie I have ever walked out on. But yet he won an oscar. Could say why but not goign to haha. Most of his movies just can't really believe him. Only movie I thought he
was semi decent in was Any Given Sunday.
(edit) Good call on the chick from twilight. OMG DOES SHE SUCK |

Agreed except for his supporting role in The Departed... he was in good in that, probably because as a Boston native, he fits into that sub-cultural role so well. |

he was good in boogie nights, but then again he played an idot so it was not really acting.

Some of my favourite performances:
Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver
Eric Bana in Chopper
Val Kilmer in Tombstone
Robert Downey Junior in A Scanner Darkly
Kurt Russell in Big Trouble In Little China
Not necessarily the "best" performances I've seen, but I don't pretend to be an expert on the art of acting, and I tend to take for granted more nuanced and subtle performances. All of the above played characters that really glued me to the screen, mostly because they were larger than life in some way. |
