No, no, no... you argued that if they don't meet the mirror test their fair game. Well Comrade, I say that you're a heartless bastard... entirely in keeping with your alter ego. Well played. |

Not to mention the destruction of genetic diversity in the species which has taken hundreds of millions of years to evolve... |
most dolphin species are listed as least concern in the conservatoinal status ranking (for the thousandth time im mentioning this)
All species living on earth today have experienced some sort of evoultion with regards to millions of years. So the more diverse the species the more we should rank it as higher to conserve?
I would say conservation should depend on abbundance |

the cows were born and raised to be killed by people...

that isn't justification for their destiny. They were born and raised initially as wild animals. simply because it was convenient to use these animals we did so. It could have been the same with dolphins.
An analogous statement would be "negro's were raised to be slaves"

the dolphines were not. If they raised them to be slaughtered then I am all for it. |
that is what my point is. It is no different then slaughtering cows. If they euthanised the animals in a "humane" manner it technically should be permissible.
My personal point of view is though that we already have enough animals on our platter. Its morally wrong to mass slaughter them and in the end we are allowing ourselves to evolve a great dependency on varieties of foods. |

No, you'r just taking my argument to the extreme. It's not an either/or black and white proposition. I think it's called a straw man argument. |

Less genetic diversity, less chance of survival. No longer is it the strongest survive, but who was lucky enough to escape the human nets. |

less genetic diversity usually means a stronger more viable species. IF it doesnt have to change to adapt it will most likely survive longer.
if the species is not endangered i don't see your argument working. |

Japan slaughters dolphins for meat, rivers of blood ensue:

Despite the efforts of the Japanese authorities to keep it hidden, the massacre has been captured on film by a guerrilla documentary team led by the man who trained Flipper.

Luck is not a new factor in a species' survival, Krypton.
There seems to be a lot of moral cherry-picking here... all the more reason to dismiss morals entirely. It's the dolphins' own fault they couldn't defend themselves! SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST, NO? |
