| Oh, I don't expect them to have an impact. It's the fact that a relatively obscure progressive act who haven't released anything for 12 years are back in the studio which is salient. |

There aren't many trance nights at all around here. A couple that play fluff trance and whichever of the Armada/Anjuna/etc. brigade are in town on any given weekend, but I can only think of one psy trance night near me where I could imagine hearing Union Jack. |

| ouch! we've probably on average got 2-3 club trance nights, 2-3 psy/prog trance nights, 2-3 tech prog nights on any given weekend - and really played properly a good dj would probably be able to get away with it at all 3 types of em (with probably the dj having to compromise most at the club trance nights which i find quite ironic lol) |

I would hope so, but if that was really the case, trance wouldn't be stuck in epic trance mud like it has been for the last 10 years. If there really is a big following for the kind of stuff Union Jack is making now, how come hardly anyone is playing it or producing it?
These tunes have existed on the fringes for some time now, but for some reason, trance as a genre remains in anthemville, unable to move forward and mutate like other genres. Surely if these new releases we're talking about had a big following, this would not be such a huge problem? Where is the big milestone that has changed the face of trance the way X-Dream changed goa with Radio?
The inevitable conclusion is that the "trance crackers" have an overwhelming majority presence at trance nights, and a set with this kind of trance would therefore clear the dancefloor rather quickly. Meanwhile, the "elitist minimal hipsters", who most likely would be more open to these new releases (especially since so many of them started out listening to this kind of trance to begin with), do not care, as the relentless anthems of trance nights are such a turnoff that they'd rather listen to other genres. |

You are being too reductive (J :p ).
There are not two opposing groups of people in the electronic music world. There are a variety of people who like different genres for different reasons. For example, there are people who really only like classic trance but no longer go out because they know they're not going to hear it anywhere. There are the people who like progressive house, drum 'n' bass, et cetera.
When it comes down to it, I think that 90% of punters are usually so off their faces on pills and full of hero worship at Armin and Tiesto concerts that it doesn't really ing matter what is played. If Union Jack was played they'd be happy to dance to that too, though perhaps once they were back home and sober they wouldn't be so open to something without vocals and an emotional breakdown. |

Don't get me wrong... I get into some minimal and tech house, myself. But, what I mean is just what I've said... it's kinda been beaten into the ground by now :)
I'm just ready to listen to some good music... not just music that's trying to be "this" or "that" for the sake of it. |
