Is there a Trance/Progressive revival?

Is it my imagination or are we seeing a small revival of classic trance and progressive? Union Jack's got a new album out and Platipus fellows POB and Art Of Trance are making moves. Then there was that old Salt Tank single released out of nowhere a month or two back, although that turned out to be quite forgettable. Now I've just found out Blue Amazon is producing again after four years off, including a "Jackpot Reunion EP" with Shango and a forthcoming Homage To House/Acid single this October.
Are there any other examples? Is anyone actually playing these classic-sounding records, or are they just going out to grateful TAs while the wider clubbing world dances on oblivious? What does it all mean? |

I dont know if there are many people playing them out, it would be a ing disgrace if not though. Everyone Ive played stuff off Pylon Pigs too, not hardcore TAs I hasten to add, has really liked it.
Im hoping that because that because this stuff actually sounds fresh, interesting and is really dancable it might start making its way into many DJs playlists.I havent heard the Blue Amazon stuff (although the news that they are back in the studio is damn exciting) but one of the great things about the Union Jack album is that theres actually some groove in the baselines. Ive used Papillion in the mix in my sig and my gf whos a big funky breaks fan, loves it (sorry about the shameless plug).
Lets just hope it inspires some new talent to start writing in the same direction! |

It's already about on Beatport, along with another new BA single called "Nu Nu". Just snapped them both up. Good , even though BA has never been quite the same since James Reid quit. |

| I think a lot of people are ready to let a little melody back into their playlists, now that the whole minimalized techno/house thing has been beaten into the ground about as far as it can go. Perhaps this is part of that. |

| The question is if there really is an audience for this at trance nights in 2009, now that they have essentially turned into dancefloor hug-a-thons with hours of anthems and fart basslines. I can't help but worry that this stuff will sit awkwardly between two chairs: trance fans won't like it because it doesn't have any familiar anthems and breakdowns, and non-trance fans won't like it because, well, it's trance. So who will it be for, in the end? |

Yeah, this is why I asked who is actually playing this stuff. I can imagine the Blue Amazon stuff fitting in nicely at a progressive house night I frequent, but I haven't seen any head-down pure trance nights around.
People were saying that Salt Tank track would be a nice filler/bridge piece, but it was at 142bpm, and the only DJs who play at that tempo aren't going to touch a track like that. |
