Yeah why not? Does it deserve the Best Drama Award from GG?

Here's a tip for those who want to see this: go watch it in 3D not IMAX.
While James Cameron is obligated to promote the IMAX theaters publically (due to an insiders deal with the cinema chains) he has strongly recommended to not watch this in IMAX (and confirmed by 1 of the Avatar's VFX directors as well) the reason being this is shot wide and for IMAX theaters they had to adjust for the screen width and crop both ends of the film, so some detail has been lost on both edges due to the cropping.

Nothing too earth shattering, but if you're going just for the visual eye candy, thought you might want to enjoy the full-detailed version vs.
the modified version.

Happened here? Happened everywhere. That's just how life used to be. Let's just be thankful we live in a time that no longer openly condones it.

Avatar is about as fresh and entertaining as it gets in that department.

Entertaining yes, fresh only in the effects department.

I wasn't talking about GG - I'll refrain form making comments about GG since I haven't see the other nominees in that category (thought I did hear Up in the Air was an excellent movie)

but just GG aside, that movie wasn't about the storyline at all (neither it claimed to be having an outstanding story-line)

District 9> Avatar in 4-D

It's pretty obvious it's gonna get best pic at the Oscars...either that or The Hurt Locker, but Hurt Locker is not the same crowd sweeping mainstream spectacle that Avatar is. None of those awards are based on merit, but some other political motif or which studio had the best marketing really.

Nice. You aren't the first person I hear this from. Too bad I didn't see it in theatres. Dvd will just have to do

Just got home from seeing it in Imax 3D :D I really enjoyed it! despite being in the second row lol.

I didn't find it overly mind-blowing or anything but I'd definitely see it again.

So instead, having earthlings travel to a distant planet with insane looking creatures and landscapes while playing out the same type of story as Pocahontas isn't considered fresh?

What would be then, foreign bacteria entering a human only to have one of them join the resident good bacteria and fight off the flu?
