Jesus Christ. I'm not crazy for all the tracks but there sure is a lot more tunage in that list than that imho.
edit: the ones you mentioned were some of my favorites too, however. |
i barely knew any of the other tracks, and of the ones i did, maybe others were palatable for me, but these three have the most longevity. as i said, these were the ones that i really liked. There are 3 kinds of tracks to me: 1.) tracks i cant stand, 2.) tracks i'd be happy to hear other people play, 3.) tracks that i would play. It has nothing to do with elitism, but rather just the sheer enjoyment I get from listening to or mixing certain tracks.
Most of these tracks will be forgotten quickly, IMO.
took a look at a few more of these for the hell of it :
mark pritchard - ?: nice little harmonic/ambient tool, but top 50 track of 2009? come on
bvdub - to live: nice atmospherics, but composition goes nowhere and is tiresome. there is a ton of better music like this out there in area of ambient/drone/post-rock. this is like video game credits music. BVDub is the enya of techno.
6th Borough Project - Do It to the Max [Instruments Of Rapture] - OK, this one is pretty awesome, and I definitely slept on it.
wax 20002 A - love shed, but this one doesnt do it for me. 10001 was much better.
WhoMadeWho - Keep Me In My Plane (DJ Koze Hudson River Dub) - not bad, but too tracky and generic for me to play. Typical minimal deep house chord stabs, pointless vocal samples, cheesy effects, and boring soundcloud style uberclean production and arrangement. muzak
Levon Vincent - Six Figures - I like the production his production aesthetic, but none of his tracks have ever grabbed me by the balls, i usually just wait for them to end if i am on the dancefloor. not saying he isnt capable of making something that i enjoy though
Motor City Drum Ensemble - Raw Cuts #5 - not bad. standard deep house fare. might play it, but I wouldn't say it is a top track by any means.
Oni Ayhun - OAR 003 B1 - I sort of liked this, little bit like agoria - les violon ivre in mood and sound design. i'd have to hear the whole thing before I could call it a top track though.
seth troxler - aphrika - no ing way. the craig alexander remake of 'phenomenal woman' on white owl is so much better. Yet I wouldnt even call that a top track.
Azari & III - Hungry for the Power - just sounds like a chip e or fast eddie 2009 remake. vocals are cheesy as . this like chicago house track made by gunther
Stefan Goldmann - Art of Sorrow - no. his remix of arcade was pretty good, though.
The Mole - For the Lost - maybe if i wanted to take a nap
Ben Klock - Subzero - tries too hard to be robert hood, but just doesnt have the same power. standard fare 2009 rob hood style berghain techno track
House of House - Rushing to Paradise - Just OK, standard big clob ibiza piano anthem music. this one might survive but I don't like it particulary
Floating Points - Love Me Like This (Nonsense Dub) - This is awesome, and I slept on it.
DJ Sprinkles - Grand Central, Part 1 (MCDE Bassline Dub) - loved the dj sprinkles album, but this remix sucks. minimal k-shuffle head nod track
Moodymann - Freeki Mother ****** - I would probably also call this a top track. It saw a lot of play from me at various parties. Should have included this in the original 3 i posted
Precious System - The Voice from Planet Love: pretty cool disco house but quite boring. Reminds me of this disco classic by Linda Evans 'You Control Me' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFaYlMUclTQ May have been sampled.
Burial & Four Tet - Moth - could be nice closer in the right context, dont know about top track.
Motor City Drum Ensemble - Raw Cuts #6 - boring, standard fare
Tensnake - Holding Back (My Love) - enjoyable, not top track
Tony Lionni - Found a Place - no way. this track has been made dozens of time and this is one of the least interesting versions of it
Pépé Bradock - Path Of Most Resistance - I am absolutely a Pepe Bradock champion but I do not like this track.
everything else not mentioned was too tracky, dull, boring, forgettable for mention. |

| Schadenfreude |
| I would agree with most, but like it or not I think that Found A Place will have staying power. The track does not reinvent anything ok, but it is such a pleasure to mix and is a great lead for a bigger track to come. Only my opinion of course. |

The other guys at CMG really ing love the Moth/Wolf Cub 12". They're even talking about putting it on the end of decade list. |

Of all the tracks they listed, this would probably be my number one choice. |

Cant believe that Hyph Mngo is number 1 there. I love dubstep but this tune is just boring. Cant see all da hype with dis tune.
The Darkstar tune is the only 1 I got in my top 50 too. |
|
|
| Seppuku |
| Hyph Mngo was way more fresh/creative than the Darkstar track imo... (by no means do I think it was the biggest track of the year though.) |

nice to see Animal Collective featured on there. Baltimore reprazent! ... Although I think they've moved to NYC, for a good reason.
Sprinkles' album was definitely top notch, very deserving. |
