September and October of this year, which I spent almost completely without music, were the best two months of my year. I've been watching more documentaries, reading more and was more social. Also, I think I was more patient, tolerant and was feeling better in general. I think I'm gonna go back to that practice as soon as I finish compiling the list of my favourite albums of the decade, which currently eats a huge amount of my time. |

I used to listen to trance for a long time back in the 90s, among other forms of electronic dance music. Since 1993 or so, when I was 6 years old. Never really got into the underground stuff or the really good sounds. I was young, so I didn't really know what to do.
When I moved to Canada I went through what I like to call "the dark age of music in my life"...this was 1999 till about 2003/4. Then I started listening to psytrance again as my Israeli friends introduced me to some more contemporary sounds when I went to visit them. Then somehow I started listening again to epic/progressive trance, and did a lot of catching up with stuff from 2000 onwards. Then in 2006 I discovered Beatport and started listening to electro house (it was a new sound for me, I was blown away at the time). Then I discovered progressive house, which had a lot of the melodies that I liked from trance, but was at a speed that I preferred. It was really awesome. Then I started listening more to deep house. tech house (late 2006, early 2007) and stuck with that. I joined TA in May of 2008, having already acquired much of my musical taste by then. So I used to be a TA, but that was before I was a member of this site.

| Started off with Trance, then dabbled in psy for a bit. I played a lot of Prog house too. |

Interesting that your experience matches mine. I really have no idea *why* going without music would have those effects, just that it does, at least for me. |

| as far as edm goes, i started off listening to funky house in 98, found trance around 01 but wasn't all that serious about it, really got into it in 04 thanks to gdjb and asot, turned to prog and tech house in 05, abandoned trance completely in 06 (the last good year for trance was 2005 imo), and from there on i really only pursue tech house, deep house and techno. the last two years i haven't really been searching for new music much at all. as long as i have 1 or 2 really good mixes to work out to, i'm good. i haven't looked on beatport in over a year! |

Always liked 80s music and the associated synths, got into uplifting and melodic trance in 2000. Slowly over the years learned to love progressive house. Now, I still listen to the same stuff as before but I'm getting more and more into all the sub-genres of house as well as more techy tracks, increasing amounts of DnB.
I just really love music :) |
