Started off with pop, cheesy techno, gothic/80's rock, acid house industrial, hardcore techno ebm, trance (sometime around 1998) and wandered since back into contemporary cheesy techno, ebm, D&B, hardcore techno, acid, psy, goa and other rubbish.
Trance itself occupied a very brief time between 1998-2002 or so where it was quite good as a developing genre. |

I loved everything when I first got into EDM in the mid 90s...then in the late 90s moved mainly into Trance...and Sasha & Digweed. Drool.
Early 2000s as trance was on the downturn, I really got into prog house and San Francisco House. Still loved the trance and saw every trance DJ coming in, but it was during this time when I really started to expand my horizons and got into other genres and I'd choose attending nights featuring a prog/sf house DJ over a big trance headliner somewhere else.
Markus and Gabriel & Dresden came onto the scene in 2003 and I got absolutely addicted to both of them. I remember when like 30 peope listened to GDJB on the web when it first started...G&D and their productions were just amazing.
Over the next few years, I really got back into trance...felt it was finally on an upswing. In 2006 I was blown away when I saw Sander van Doorn live for the first time with his style. That was when I really started to get into the tech stuff. Tech-trance, techo-house, and the deeper side of prog trance/house have been what I've mainly been into the last few years, but I ultimate prefer sets with a good mix of tech & prog trance/house, and not really heavy to either side. Dunno, just does it for me. Lately, I've been getting into more techno (think Claude von Stroke), though not sold on it completely just yet. |

From being a big metal head, I listened to Justice's album 'Cross' in early 2007 and became addicted to electro house immediately.. from there, I dabbled with dubstep, fidget house, then started really digging prog house.. from there I got into deep house, tech house.. this is all within in the last 3 years btw. I'm new to EDM. I've always listened the out of a genre of music then moved on to something new, like a parasite.
I've never really been a fan of trance, it's too fast for me. I like 128-130BPM max.
I'm here though because prog trance/prog house is almost the same thing.. and the Montreal section is pretty happening, good information about my city. |

i started listening to EDM around 97 when I was 12, and as opposed to most people here I have listened to pretty much all styles ever since, ranging from cheesy eurodance to dubtechno in the vein of basic channel/maurizio, it just depends on my mood.
of course I went through some phases where I preferred a particular style, for instance hardcore/speedcore in the late 90s, trance from 2000 to 2003 and drum n bass from 2004 to 2007, but I always tried to follow the other styles as well since I found likeable stuff in most genres.
the only subgenres I never got into were disco house, garage and happy hardcore, the rest is all fine.
I go more by producers than by styles, my favourites over the years being thomas p heckmann, oliver lieb and emmanuel top. |
