Yeah I think it'll be a really cool, useful, and simple piece of gear. The price is pretty good, too. I really just hate the idea that all my kicks, which are one of the most important parts of EDM, come from crap-ass samples that everyone uses. |

I'm pretty happy with my lineup and my goal is to go the entire year with no major purchases (unless one of my key pieces of gear fails and needs to be replaced, or I come across a ridiculously stupid good deal). That said, I'd probably replace my Moog Voyager and Prophet 08 with an SE CODE8 in a heartbeat if I could do it with little/no out-of-pocket expenses, but that' not very likely.
The only other synths/workstations that I've lusted after for a while and have seriously considered buying is a Yamaha Motif XS or Kurzweil PC3X to replace my Alesis QS8.2 as my 88-key weighted controller/piano. Probably not going to happen this year though, unless I find a deal too good to pass up.

You might want to pick one up soon. The rumor around town is that Alesis has officially stopped production. If that's actually the case (it's been rumored before), expect prices on secondhand A6s to skyrocket shortly while they're in peak demand. |

There is a big discussion of GS about that right now, and the sense is that the production stoppage is for real this time. I was basically told as much when I tried to order one last year. I ended up with the TI Polar, and honestly, I'm much happier for it.
I wouldn't turn down an A6, but the way I work it probably would not have gotten as much use as the Virus is currently getting right now. I feel like I got more value for my money with the TI simply because of the amount of use I get out of it. |

I hope they stop production of the A6 because they have something new in the works.
I might pick one up if all the flaws of the A6 is fixed in this newer model :P |

Highly unlikely. They were already limiting production runs to once or twice per year, and now the rumor is that they cannot reliably make the ASIC chips any longer. The Andromeda was the end result of a group of analog synthesizer designers who are no longer employed at Alesis. They brought the concept to Alesis management and (barely) got it approved and the result was the A6. Once Numark bought them up, the new company had little desire to stay in the high end boutique market and that's one of the reasons it got killed.
There is a big story on the history and development of the unit somewhere online, but I can't find it at the moment. Google it and you should find it. I believe it was on the VSE forums, one of the original designers laid out the entire story. Suffice it to say, I would not expect anything like the A6 to be manufactured again by Alesis and certainly not while they are a part of Numark. If you are looking for alternatives, the best you can do is look to Studio Electronics with the Omega product line. Not quite as versatile, but a good unit nonetheless. |

You were so happy with your 2nd Voyager not long ago, though! :p
I think you do get a lot for your money with those Studio Electronics synths vs. the Moog. I'm not sure why the Moog is so damn expensive, whether it's the name or their make everything by hand in the USA manufacturing model, I don't think it's worth it in the end. I only put the Moog Voyager on my original post if I find a ridiculously good deal and practically have money to burn.
With all that in mind, I've aded a SE Omega / Code to the list. ;) |

Oh, I am - I actually like it much better the second time around. Same goes for the P08. But, the CODE8 is just...well,...I really want one. :) |
