Looks nice but it's worthless. No multitasking, no flash support, I simply couldn't think of anything I could do with it. It's just an expensive toy. |
Much like many other Apple products |

only other product that I can think of is the iPhone, but I have yet to actually require full multitasking there |

the e-book market is still not sorted out though. very few publishers have a working strategy on this. I've got a project now for one group of publishers (I work on ERP systems for most of them in Aus/Singapore/South Africa) and nothing has filtered down to the distribution/ordering systems yet.
pretty sure that nyce's company is one of the first to get to that point |
how big of a publisher is it that you're working for? eBooks is huge, all the major players (trade/consumer) were plugged during the iPad presentation. Simon Schuster, Penguin, Hachette, and 2 more I forget.
ERP is the basic infrastructure to any B2B business regardless of the product. We have a very distinct BPM defined process for delivering content, product, and digital product to all of our distribution. I doubt it's the most efficient, but it's a large step from where we were 2 years ago. We have 2 third party vendors that we use to CRM our digital assets.
I'v been working on competitive pricing plans for education ebook product within the Higher Education and Professional Learning domains. The worst part is getting the analytical data to make those price point adjustments and determine marketshare amongst digital product. There is technical no POS / Sell Through for a product that is not palpable, so coming up with unique reports is tasking. |

| I just don't see the point with that one. You can't really do anything with it that haven't been approved by apple. Sure you can play that addictive air traffic control game on bigger screen, but besides that it's just kinble with apple tax. I'm more interested in the upcoming lenovo ideapad U1 link. |

Laptops can not match iPad in terms of comfortability. The typical netbook weights 2.5 to 3 lbs. It's not as easy to type on laptops. |
lolwat? How is NOT easy to type on a laptop :wtf:
Don't kid yourself about the 10 hour battery life on this thing either :p Might last 10 hours for the first few months until it gets to the point in every Apple product's life where you have to be tethered to an outlet. |

| really, other then showing how cool you are to the other champagne socialists at Starbucks; does this thing do anything that a comparably priced laptop doesn't? Why would anyone give up so much by way of utility in exchange for a marginally better interface? |

the CEO was a douche for confirming the product on FOX news the day before, and now they are claiming that they never stated that
| quote: | | [Mr. McGraw]'s speculative comments about Apple's pending launch, which he shared earlier in the day in a call with investors, were simply intended to suggest that if the new device were to use iPhone applications, many of our education products would be compatible with the technology and could be made easily available on it. |

NDA violation ok maybe, a slip yea totally unprofessional, i think at most Apple losing out on potentially cutting MGH from their online catalog would prove detrimental any reoccurring educational sales. it's a slap on the wrist at most, but the rumor mill still speculates and will continue as the more criticism the maxipad gets.
then again, the tablet theories pre-announcement were all but similar and expected. i do reckon the position that dropping details like "based on the iphone OS" to be revealing, it's still proprietary to Apple so no thunder was lost.
Also, this was not MacWorld and the whole controlled leak and broadcast that Jobs instituted during the announcement meeting is all bull. No livestream until AFTER the event, only live blogging by a short list of media outlets, someone needs to put the silver spoon down and be a bit more "open to the public" if you are indeed producing products for the people. iWhateverTheitIs |

I would say it's actually WORSE off beacuse it still uses the iPhone OS as opposed to OSX. A better product would have been an Apple Air in tablet form. Meh...Google has announced it's going to develop a tablet product, probably gonna destroy the iTab too :p |
