Bro PvD can play polka music with clucking chicken sounds while wearing a tutu and most of you will think he was ing AWESOME!
Srsly, PvD is a has been. I give that man MAD respect up till 2005 (the last great time I had with him @ Space). I was a huge PvD whore but when a DJ stops playing up to expectation it's time to move on.
Give a chance for the "less well known" names to school PvD on where he needs to be again.
Nocturnal wasn't too packed but I'll take the music @ Nocturnal > 2 hours of SvD playing "great" (lol) and PvD doing the same he's been doing for about 4 years now. I guess parties have to be slammed packed to be "good" right? SIIIKE.
-edit: so I just heard the set [glad it got recorded for me to make my own opinion]. It began tribal/tech-housey followed by a wave of ups/downs as usual. I will say that he did some pretty cool with abelton towards the end of Global Code though. But seriously, what happened to the serious high energy, pounding kick/bassline type tracks he once played? What happened to keeping the momentum going throughout the set? I collectively heard 3/4 tracks I liked out of a 3 hour set...
I def don't regret my decision of not going.
Oh and 10 years of Vandit but no Tell Me Why (Vandit mix)??? I hope he played it on day 2 @ least or else that is an epic FAIL! |

This was the song PVD played Friday night that I went insane over:
Daft Punk – Stronger (Scot Project Stronger Rmx)
The synth melodies in this track are some of the best I've heard in years, song of the night for me! :D
Now that WMC is over, this was still the very best event imo. I would go back and do it again in a heartbeat! Club Space rocks, and the DJ's and crowd propelled each other into such a wild frenzy, out of control, just the way it should be. :) |

I've heard the same type of set with the same fuking tracks before from him. Fact is, he can't bring it like before...if you ever saw PvD when he was actually worth a damn you'd see the difference. |

I thought you were going both days so he could sign all your PVD lunchboxes, posters & vinyl for you :stongue:
Honestly though, no one anywhere has said a thing about Saturday's show :wtf: |

I thought his Friday night set was awesome, but on Saturday he PLAYED WAAAAAAAAAY HARDER. He absolutely RAPED Club Space! Way more trancey, higher energy, etc. Filo and Peri played pretty some pretty good beats, but way too many long breakdowns. Nonetheless they played a great high energy set and set things up perfectly for PVD. He really brought it home on Saturday night, what a great way to close out WMC..... I thought for sure he would play softer due to Austin Leeds closing, but nope.... PVD has still got it.
Sorry to all you naysayers but you're wrong. The energy from the tracks he played on Friday was amazing, and Saturday was 10X better. |

Just to reiterate, he RAPED Club Space on Saturday and played the set that most of you wanted to hear from him. He started out with For An Angel 2009 and banged it out from beginning to end, no fluff! It was way way way harder than his Friday set (I was there too). Surprisingly harder than the set he played in SF a few months ago too. I wasn't going to go to this but I decided to go last minute. I also wanted to catch Troy Pierce and Marc Houle on the Loft, so everything worked out perfectly.
I have no regrets going both nights (Techno Loft was SICK on Saturday too). Also I have to give it up to Club Space for throwing an awesome party. Other than holding the presale line for a bit too long on Friday (Saturday only took a 10 minutes), everything else was awesome, not to mention that we got ALL ACCESS to the Terrace and Loft (Fri and Sat) with just the PVD ticket.
Going back to PVD though, I agree that his set on Friday was kind of wavy with his ups and downs, but only for the first hour. Yet he still managed to keep the energy up. The first hour of his set was as good as SVD's last hour, so some people need to STFU about SVD>PVD or whatever. They're both awesome, PVD is probably more versatile, which is I annoying I guess to some people, depending on the night they catch him..... The last 2 hours was ING BANGING! Some of you people complain about him playing "housey" tracks or breaking up the energy a bit, I think it's complete BULL. Breaking up the energy is part of a good set! You forget to mention how every other real "trance dj" plays long fluffy, cheesy vocal breakdowns every god damn song. I went to plenty of "trance" parties (Dip In, AVA, Anjunabeats) and i'm sick of the fluffy vocal breakdowns every song, the same mixing in at 32 bars every ing song, etc. Everything is way too predictable. Blah...... I'll take PVD's hybrid Ableton sets any day. I think a lot of you just bash and don't really know WTF you're talking about. If you don't think that other dj's play similar sets from city to city, or play similar styles from year to year, then you need to get your head checked..... I'll give props to someone who steps out and innovates and does it well, over others who do the same as everybody else. Here is what most trance dj's do: pick out a 140+ bpm song that doesn't key clash with the song that's playing, beatmatch for 5 seconds, mix it in by the 32nd bar, chill for a few minutes, repeat. Lots of skill eh?
Anyways, to each his own. I'm glad to see that we got such a good variety of events this year and that everybody seemed to have a good week. Seems much better than last year......... |

I am not speaking out ot my ass, I heard the set from Friday and it was REDUNDANT to many other times I've seen him. Nothing WOW or fuking amazing...it was the same type of set he's been doing for quite a while. People who have been following PvD since BEFORE 2004 agree with me. He stopped being EPIC in 2005. But everyone who saw the legendary 6 hour set @ the old Space (2003?) and were HUGE PvD whores say how bad he's gotten. It's the truth so give it a rest.
I'd believe he played better on Saturday for the simple fact I heard Friday's set and it wasn't special. What used to set PvD aside from every other boring trance DJ was the fact that he could deliver 4+ hours of banging ass music without having to take it down. He was relentless which isn't the case anymore.
Once again, didn't hear Tell Me Why (Vandit Mix) on the Friday's set. Someone PLEASE tell me it was played Saturday. Srsly, it's his best fuking track & the 10 year anniversary party yet he doesn't play it?? That's just full of LOSE! |
