I'd appreciate recommendations on which parties would likely be best. I don't know anything about the venues nor a lot of the lineups. I'm completely overwhelmed by the choices.

The choices are too good! It's hard to decide, I'm overwhelmed myself. Currently torn between Blue Collar, Drumcode, and Fort Street Social for Saturday night... Just wait when some of the more bigger names are annouced and choosing is going to be impossible :nervous: Not thinking too much about Blk|Market because they have better lineups when they are doing their parties in NY, and Clink does showcases in NY often with reSOLUTE.

Sunday is all about the SHOW, and Monday The Old Miami.

There's also a rumour about Plastikman on "I'm on a boat" which would be sweet, I'm going to ask Larry next time I see him.

from my experience, the venues can be hit or miss, since a lot of the buildings are pretty old and a big soundsystem creates a lot of rattle.

TV Bar/TV Lounge is nice and close to Hart Plaza. sound is good and there's an outdoor area.

Oslo (not sure if anything has been booked there yet) is pretty cool too. just a dark room and pretty decent sound, about 5-10 minute cab ride from the festival.

St. Andrews Hall, where a bunch of the Friday/Saturday opening parties are is sorta tricky. The mainroom isn't made for any sort of loud soundsystem imo, went there for a Minus showcase two years ago and all you could hear was the sound of everything rattling violently. but the downstairs is a lot better.

not sure about majestic theater or vain, haven't been. exodus lounge is supposed to be pretty nice too, they have parties regularly.

not much to say about old miami except that its the best part of my weekend every year.

p.s. - not to freak anyone out, but cabs can get really sketchy so make sure to ask them to turn the meter on. and traveling with people is definitely the way to go. close friend of mine got beaten up pretty badly last year walking alone just 2 blocks from a party to the hotel.

The newest EDM clubs in Detroit are Vain and Reliv.

I am kind of confused as to the whole Drum Code show case because Ida's myspace originally said she was at Reliv, but Adam's says Vain. But Vain has a reaallllly good system.

The Works always does parties, but it's kind of a hole, I guess they're trying to revamp it though. When I was there for Rebel Rave in February it was amazing. I thoroughly trust Detek(the guys throwing Blue Collar to come through)

TV bar is really nice, one of my favorite clubs in the city.

Exodus in greek town is cool because it's an out door venue on a patio which can be nice on a great night.

I have only been to Reliv once and I didn't really like the set up, it's a lot of VIP area and the system seemed too small for the club.

10 Critics is a nice club but the surrounding area is kind of shady, also the residents hate the club being there so the chances of the police being called for noise/ravers is notable.

I'll post more if I think of them.

:nervous: I've heard plenty of stories like this one. Thanks for your tips.

Will it be easy to catch cabs considering the number of people that will be in Detroit this year and leaving the festival at the same time?

Just stick with the reputable companies and you should be okay.

Checker:
(313)963-7000

Detroit Cab Company:
(313)841-6000

My advice is this, if you, say, on Friday take a cab and the cabbie is a cool guy, get his card/phone number. That way you can use one cabbie all weekend, and they'll usually hook you up with good flat rates.

In Detroit, unless a flat rate is discussed at the beginning of the ride, make sure you tell the cabbie to turn on the meter, if they don't pay attention to you, then the ride is free. BUT if you neglect it, then you're at the mercy of whatever they feel like asking you to pay. I have never had a problem, but I have heard horror stories.

If you have GPS on your phone, be sure to use it to know exactly where you are going, because if you jump in a cab and say "take me to a liquor store" well, there are a lot of liquor stores in Detroit.

For those of you that don't have a hotel room yet, if you search through bing.com it shows that there are some RenCen rooms available.

Paxahau just confirmed that "I'm On A Boat" will be happening again this year, and it will be on Sunday.

If anyone didn't go to this last year, it was arguable the best party during DEMF i've ever been to.

Is Larry throwing it? Maybe he'll be selling tix here in NY?

Got an announcement that Ellen Allien is playing Santos on Sat. May 29th. So, I guess the only chance to see her in Detroit is on Friday night.
