Yeah, I don't think Markus is gonna do any slow buildup/progressive tonight...

Markus' First Hour Review = WEIRD. Very weird first hour for him. Not sure if I liked it. Kinda of an hour with some big synths (for markus). odd. He didn't come out banging, but he's not playing progressive in any way building up the set.
Second hour better, but programming still just not on point with the Markus I've seen in the past. A kagillion times. :p
Seems like he is leading to banging it out, but he's playing a bit too epic for me while doing so. Now I like epic stuff and I wouldn't necessarily say what he's playing is purely epic trance, it just has elements of it (ie. big synths) and to me it's just not markus. at least in the first part of his set!
Crowd is pretty f'n horrible. And not very enthusiastic. I thought they didn't allow glowsticks and lightshows in Avalon? (could be wrong) You can't avoid them tonight. Little groups just sitting on the floor getting their light shows on. Stupid whoot whoot chants. Douches getting on top of other douches shoulders when Markus comes on. OK, that was pretty funnt. But this is a 21+ event, right? It almost feels like an 18+ rave.
I think all the good clubbers (other than the TAs attending :p) re in Las Vegas tonight! All the drunks have left, so now left with all the people loaded on other things. I don't care if ur loaded if you behave. But so many people aren't. (but what else should have I expected??? :-p)
Crowd is still way better than Sutra was though!
A lot of girl-guy arguments in the smoking area. So many it's kinda standing out. Breaks outside are entertaining.
The production is KILLER though. The four lasers are AWESOME. The little spin effect they do is crazy! They need like 20 of those ats a massive! The screen visuals were better doign the opening sets because all they leave on there during markus' set is the "do you dream?" logo. They had nice visuals on the screens before he came on, thought it helped with the atmosphwere.
So far, San Diego is easily the best set from him between OC/SD/LA this weekend.
PS. Blake Jarrell was bizzzooorring to me. At least the hour I heard. He prob couldn't play to his fullest potential with Markus aften him and played a set loaded with very progressive-progressive (emphasis) trance but his set just didn't really go anywhere until the end and it wasn't even a good lead into Markus. Was a bit disappointed. Just IMO. I typically love his mixes! |

I had never been to Avalon before and I was blown away by the production. I haven't been to a ton of clubs, but it was by the far the best looking production I've seen.
I loved that he played "Without You Near" near the end.
He seemed super nice after his set and was signing his autograph for a lot of people. |
