Belief is the death of intelligence, once something becomes progresses from active consideration into true 100% belief, then the simply stop being objective and no longer think ANYTHING otherwise. At the extreme end of the scale its called 'intolerance' where they don't give any consideration to what anyone else believes either and like the halfwits that go door knocking, cant understand why anyone else would want to be different to them. |

Precisely. My father being one and being raised inside the religion it's almost funny how warped the consensus here is. I've also had many problems and disagreements with their mentality and continue to, but I would never generalize some form of stupidity within them or any other creed system. |

I wouldn't call them idiots. It's hard to get rid of an ideology that you've been raised in forever. I'm sure slylee could have told us all about the psychology behind them.
Though I would say they are stupid :p
Luckily I'm in Seattle and thus have never had anyone ever knock on my door trying to convert me to anything. |

witnesses are no better/worse than any other christian sect.
they came to my door and woke me up about a month ago. i took one look at the nonsense clutched in their hands and told them to piss off. to their credit they still told me to have a nice day.
my best friend is a witness, so i know a bit about them. every year he'd go to a big 'festival' of witnesses, and this one time the church leader was preaching about the 'doof doof' music being of the devil. haha. |

Or, they could just really wish something we find unacceptable is true. That's hardly a sign of idiocy, but rather a need to find concepts and realities ordinary experience can't provide them.

There's no intelligence without some sort of belief. You probably believe there's a planet called Neptune in our Solar System, and that its greatest moon is Triton - yet you've never seen them yourself, so it's hardly honest to say you know they exist (specially Triton). Rather, you believe they are out there because you were told so by people you trust.
Really, stop it already: claiming religious people are close-minded idiots is no better than preaching that atheists are blind sinners. |
