Buying digital releases in wav or 320bit mp3 format? (pg. 2)

320 is fine, but I'm of the opinion of if I'm paying for a piece of music why would I buy one that has been compressed and isn't full quality.

When I buy music I usually buy the tangible copy if I can (be it through a second-hand source or whatever), and if you're worried about money going to the artist, pay them or the label directly.

It's not really the issue of not wanting the best quality available. But more the issue of price/size vs what no one can hear anyway :)

On beatport it's only $1 more for a wav.

And hard drives are cheap.

I dunno, it's just me, but I really don't see the point in spending money for compressed audio.

Meh. That $1 adds up though. At least for me. A purchase of 15 songs for $30 ends up costing $45, definitely adds up over time.

I try to buy physical copies of stuff anyway. I'm hoping to buy a huge external drive this summer that will enable me to start ripping all my CDs in higher quality than just the 256 I do now. Maybe when I have that + I get some higher quality speakers / headphones I'll start caring more about the quality.

For now, I'm okay with spending $1 on songs that I like on iTunes and $1.5 on Beatport, as well as the $10+ I spend on a Single or Maxi CD of a song that I love or that isn't available for download.

I can't really hear a difference between WAV and 320 or 256 =/

.wav son. It's the way to go. But I always compress them to FLAC anyway.

Off topic, does anyone know a free FLAC -> Mp3 converter?

I was using some Switch thing but apparently it was just a trial and they want me to pay now.

If you want to do it properly use FLAC Fronted to unpack the .flac to .wav then Razorlame with external LAME 3,98 and settings -b 320

$1 extra is insane since it doesn't actually cost Beatport that much to store and distribute it! Probably about 90 cents of that is pure profit!
For the amount of I buy it would make me go bankrupt in a heartbeat but tons of stuff gets promoted in wav anyway nowadays. So I dont have to buy that:)

That just went completely over my head.

Got a free program that will just do FLAC -> 320? :P

Listen to the man Lews, he is wise :)
he meant that to preserve the best quality possible you shouldnt go with the one-click-junk-shareware programs, which obviously is true
