Buying digital releases in wav or 320bit mp3 format? (pg. 5)

Rubbish. Ears can't take that much punishment and fatigue amazingly quickly.

Anyone that spends a significant amount of time in a club and claims their hearing is fine is full of . Unless of course you're wearing earplugs, but that defeats the purpose of high quality audio anyway.

Surely a speaker that giant would split my eardrums in two but that isn't the point. Listening clarity and attention to the audio in all practicality varies amongst everyone. You cannot fault the technical side of the fact that wav quality is miles better. Some people probably dont even give a between the quality for a number of reasons, honestly however, as a DJ who buys and listens to tracks everyday, I can testify that my aural experience with wavs were much better. ie; I heard sounds and effects I could not even pick up in an mp3.

There's your problem right there, "technical" quality. These discussions are never about technical, but about "practical" quality. Anyone with half a brain cell is aware that Wav is lossless and technically a better audio file but it doesn't warrant the need to go out and buy Wavs to play out when a 320mp3 is sufficient. The advantage of Wav is not and will not ever be significant in a club environment that isn't full of audiophiles, playing tracks at low volumes and chin stroking while commenting to each other how great the club system is for their entire group of 4 people.

Had this bad boy on my last computer. Made my pirated mp3 rips sound not too shabby :toocool:

On a side note, if I really like a track then I get it in lossless, just because it's amazing :o

There is a significant difference between wav and mp3. You're looking at a difference of 1080kbps; this extra amount of bitrate is a load of detail watered down to mp3, and for those who whine about hard drive space in 2010, seriously?. Unless you have a ty audio setup, try playing an a wav on a decent system + sound card, the audio actually sounds like it has a weight and life to it because all those "missing frequencies" are there. It's kind of like painting a picture on a canvas, taking a photo of it then trying to blow it up to the actual size all over again.

How about a 872 kbps FLAC vs. a WAV? 539 kbps difference! Can you hear that with your superb Sound Blaster and amazing Logitech speakers?

What you're saying about the clubbing environment is true :). I however tend to be a perfectionist myself (if you'd like to validate that as my issue :S), but I don't buy Wavs for the sake of their technical difference. They practically do sound better for me. End of debate.

Hilarious... your speakers don't even go over 20KHz, so how would you be able to hear the difference :D
Youre doing a great job in pulling your own leg :haha:

Exactly, and that's a pretty large amount of people mind you!

Yes you can! You can also rip your CDs as FLACs or Apple Lossless if you like using iTunes. Both are way better options than WAV in every regard. You seem to have a weird fixation with WAV which seems to have nothing to do with how they sound in reality, that's the place where most of us live. ;)

I don't really care for FLAC either, just a personal preference though, nothing to do with thinking I hear a difference :)

Unless you got _AT LEAST_ a Juli@ sound-card and some decent B&W speakers, you won't hear jack- difference between 320 and FLAC.

I'm running with a pair on HD 25's and Pioneers HDJ-1000 and can honestly say I hear the difference only on known material.

But c'mon, at least a decently encoded 320 none of the one-click solutions that look like 320 kbps and have the quality of a 128 VBR.
