Track name: VIRUS MAIN Midi 1 (drop the virus plug on this). Set volume to 0. You ONLY use this track for automation (as all automation lanes for all patches go in here).

make a new midi track
Midi 2 - Input normal / output VIRUS MAIN sub output Virus 1
make a new audio track
Audio 1 - Input VIRUS MAIN sub input VIRUS PRE FX / output : master (normal)

make a new midi track
Midi 3 - Input normal / output VIRUS MAIN sub output Virus 2
make a new audio track
Audio 2 - input VIRUS MAIN sub input VIRUS 2 / output : master

etc for output 3

now IN THE VIRUS CONTROL. On the left hand side where it lists the 1-16 your patches you have loaded this is where it gets kinda tricky. You need to RIGHT CLICK next to or on the number that coresponds to that track in the virus control. i know stay with me, i'm having a tough time putting this into words. You see here:

http://www.access-music.de/page/ren...au_plug_in.html

where in the picture the 3rd patch loaded is highlighted? right around that area. You will see a drop down box, these are the OUTPUTS you can assign each sound to. So for the second patch set the output to USB 3+4 and the 3rd patch to USB 5+6 (i'm drawing a blank it might be different but you want USB stereo out).

Now ableton will receive signal separate from the other 2 patches you have loaded that way you can have your own FX on each. make sense? try it

Worked like a charm. Thanks a ton Anthony. I see you mentioning the Virus has 100+ voices....is this really true? I thought it was rumored to be around 32 and that they never have told how many it has.

Voice count varies depending on what you have enabled. If you have something mental like moog filter + distortion + cab sim + delay + verb + hypersaw 2 + unison 4 + 3 LFOs + 6 assigns you will be lucky to get 8 voices.

By the way, I'm pretty much done with buying old analogues. The average eBay sale price is not how much they really cost. They actually cost alot more and most of that expense is ancillary and ongoing (maintenance, stockpiling spares etc).

My Xpander hasn't been switched on in a month and is stored upright in my closet right now because it has never been serviced so it has 26 year old electronics that have been run down to . And its worth mentioning that as far as old analogues go, Xpanders are pretty reliable. It takes 2 to 3 hours to reach almost stable tuning. Until such time its completely unplayable (each voice can be as much as 6 semi tones apart which is how bad the pitch drift is). The 4th VCF is dead (so I only have 5 voices now). The 3rd and 4th VCO are on the way out (randomly drop anywhere between a semi tone and a whole tone and repeatedly fail autotune). The PSU needs replacement and the whole synth needs to be fully recapped. The quote I got was for 1k and thats ontop of a synth that cost me 2.2k. It doesn't include the costs associated with acquiring spare cem3372s, cem3374s and vacuum fluorescent displays which are available in ever dwindling numbers at ever increasing prices nor does it include the cost of delivery and return of 20kg to my nearest tech (in Longford) by courier.

I've had enough of playing stock trader on the obsolete chip market and going for months without stuff that just doesn't work unless you throw a load of money at it. I don't want to do that . I just want to make music without interruption.

^^^^^ Now thats some hardcore, rehab worthy sounding right there, LOL. Not laughing at you, but that was funny to read. I would have quit a long time ago because I wouldn't have been able to afford a money pit(s) like that.

I wish some of those coveted old synths could be put back into production, bring the price down, but I guess the market just isn't there for it. And maybe they would lose some of their romantic mystique if that happened.

:p

Yup. It also depends on which TI version you have - the TI2 gives you 25% more processing power over the TI1, which translates into more polyphony.

Huh? Few people can and neither can I. Which is why I have a 20kg paper weight in my closet. I'm fine with software anyway, use ImpOSCar as a placeholder for the Xpander now and it sounds just fine to me.

I'm gonna sell the Xpander after I can get enough money to fix it up.

Not true.

Mad for Brad
it was a JP 8000 preset.

It's darude! :wtf:

I remember reading somewhere that that sound came from the virus synth.
Perhaps I was misinformed.

Cheers!

It actually is one of the factory presets. I forget which number but I am 100% sure.

The lead sound in Sandstorm is not a factory preset of any synth, it's a based on an old 8 bit sample of an analog bass synth note. The synth string/pad sound is indeed based on a JP8080 preset.
