Ive never seen him before and I liked the kinda stuff he was playing! But I have to agree the whole stopping the music thing was kinda annoying. The first time he did it I was near the back of the club so i couldnt see what was going on and just heard the music stop and totally thought the decks were broken or something lol

listen...i bruise like a peach so stop throwing flyers at me...

Good seeing you again Brandon!

I randomly ended up at Footwork myself on Saturday night, showing a buddy a night on the town. Good vibe as always!

Worst set of the year so far. I still had a fun night out because I was with friends, but musically wise :wtf:. The opener for Paul was on when we got there (a few people told me she was his girlfriend?). Anyways, it felt like she was all over the place with her set. No flow and wasn't feeling the energy off her at all while she was spinning. She played around 4 tracks that I really enjoyed, but I have an ipod for that purpose. Got excited when Paul finally got on....and I wound up being even more disapponted with his set than the previous one. He played SOOOOOOOOOOOOO BORING!!!!!! He was really up and down (he would play a softer track, then mix into a banging techno track, then go back soft again). This set was completely undanceable, especially considering the amount of times he stopped the music and people stood around to dead silence. I felt like I was at a concert. I stuck it out for at least an hour and a half, giving him the opportunity to turn it around, but after awhile I just couldn't take it anymore. I did really enjoy one track he played, some really dark, driving techno track (no idea what it was). But after all the hype around him I was pretty surprised at how he played. Unfortunately the crowd was also really bad that night (rammed in there, and everyone was really pushy). Yay for the back, where there was space and much less heat!! :)

(*warning, insane bias as I work for the club lol so take this review as you will...)

I'm actually really stunned by the negative musical reviews of Paul... It was my first time seeing him, and was floored (literally) during a few moments of his set.

Some of the musical highlights for me:

- Paul played his version of 'la mezcla' where the vocal loops backwards and the flute goes forward, ED! How did he make such a played-out song sound so fresh?

- Not long after he played this totally insane beautiful techno melodic stormer that I thought was the best dance song I've heard this year...

- Throw in his 2 biggest hits (which I've always loved) + a minimal heavy chymed out version of Gary Jules' 'Mad World'... incredible!

I also thought the system sounded really good, his tracks sounded so big and full...

lol definitely not for this event. I started there then quickly relocated to a nice spot closer to the back.

paul is a great producer, but the live act was boring in my opinion and undanceable
