disappointed to see this review. I like Paul quite a bit and would have gone to this night if not for previous commitments.
too bad.

I'm actually really stunned by the negative musical reviews of Paul... It was my first time seeing him, and was floored (literally) during a few moments of his set.
Some of the musical highlights for me:
- Paul played his version of 'la mezcla' where the vocal loops backwards and the flute goes forward, ED! How did he make such a played-out song sound so fresh?
- Not long after he played this totally insane beautiful techno melodic stormer that I thought was the best dance song I've heard this year...
- Throw in his 2 biggest hits (which I've always loved) + a minimal heavy chymed out version of Gary Jules' 'Mad World'... incredible!
I also thought the system sounded really good, his tracks sounded so big and full...
Jon, you weren't the only one who thought this. I don't know what the eff everyone else was listening to but for those who thought the set was "undanceable" maybe you just lost your rhythm. I don't know what time he got on but I didn't get in until about 1:30 and throughout his set I heard some tracks that made me think "damn this is relentless". Likewise I also thought his sound was so crisp on Footwork' system. A perfect blend of melodies and hard driving basslines. The only thing that floored me more than some of the tunes he was playing was the stopping/restarting which completely destroyed the flow of his set. I thought to myself either there is some technical issues or he is done and an encore will follow. Anyways, its a shame so many people had an awful time out but I can't blame them... there were quite a few factors that night which destroyed the overall vibe.

he played it in Montreal too!
acronym
I missed him here but he's playing at Electric Zoo in September. Overall would he be worth checking out if it's a similar set to this one?

loved this track since i first heard it... and enjoyed hearing it at footwork since i haven't heard it played at toronto clubs often at all... but i was still a bit dissapointed with the evening as a whole.
i think the two highlights of the night were hearing that remix and shaking kalkbrenners hand :) ... despite being a little dissapointed i'd still see him again in hopes of a better set...

La Mezcla is one of the worst songs of all time.. yes, worse than "We Like To Party"
