And again both of these genres grew in clubs, Jazz music is played mainly in Jazz clubs if i'm not mistaken and im sure there are people who dance to Jazz music...it seems like you're trying to make D&B seem insignificant\ illegitimate **a clubbed up poppy entertainment that has no business combining with real music **.

I'm not talking about jazz clubs, dance halls or speakeasies. I'm not talking about a club as a literal physical place. I'm talking about contemporary club music. 4/4 time, percussive intros, breakbeats, rewinds, MCs. Get it? The way I see it, a crucial part of jazz is the live performance of it, especially as there is a lot of emphasis on improvisation and expression. Dance music is not about freedom and expression, it's about rigidity, quantisation, sequencing, perfect playback. Jazzy jungle works just like dance music and has some jazz sounds. It doesn't work like jazz music with some electronic sounds.

And this has nothing to do with making drum 'n bass seem "illegitimate". I've got an atmospheric drum 'n bass mix in my sig.

meh...maybe some...but not to the extant that you can call it "popped up".

I never called it Jazz music, i only said it features a good amount Jazz elements which play a great role in atmospheric d&b...i see your point overall and i agreed with it on pages 1-2.

Never heard those two tracks and ill be surprised if only *some* pop radio djs will know any of these (i do know that there's a rap song similar to the 2nd track that did pretty good in the 90s)

Its just that all of his compilations\sets from 96-06' were a pleasure to listen to at home, i just wonder if he changed his style to something horrible like all good djs.

Imagine yourself in a bar/café. If you hear pop music in the background, you expect your friends to talk about some party you attended, or the latest gossip. If they play reggae instead, you'll all be too lazy to talk about anything. And, if they play rock, the range of possible topics widens a bit, but it's still casual.

However, if there's jazz music playing in the background, everything changes. Suddenly everyone's already read Sartre, lattes and cappuccinos pop up all over the place, everyone ages a couple of decades in a matter of seconds, and everybody is a talented writer just waiting to make it in the literary world and win a bloody prize for having the deepest insights in the history of human nature ever forged by humanity since Platom despite the fact half of these so-called geniuses can't understand the noises flowing in the background which are supposed to be part of the greatest revolution in music theory after the day Bach last hacked a piano, but they like it because it is sure catchy.

It's pretty much like IDM, but has more appeal because it's not made "by a computer". Hence, it is pretentious :D

You said it's the "other half of jazz" which to me implied that atmospheric drum 'n bass was an important or major part of jazz.

The music is still good to listen to at home, but my point is it definitely works in a club. Even atmospheric drum 'n bass tends to have big basslines and intricate, repetitive percussion which makes it great for dancing. This is why I like it so much - it has that duality of being able to chill out or dance depending on the context.

Back a while ago I was into Brazilian Jazz singers like Milton Nascimento
