You have nothing to apologise for. The only baiting that you may be guilty of stems from a benevolent attempt to motivate people to care about the plight of a group of people who are experiencing great hardships. You are not deliberately trying to atagonise others by baiting them into getting angry, just for the sheer hell of it. If anything, it says a lot about those people's own cynical and negative perspectives.
This is something topical that you felt sufficiently passionate about to post, with the intention of raising awareness, no matter how minimal, amongst even just a few people, about an important issue. This reason seems as good a reason as any to post on an open forum. To quote T.Roosevelt, you are just doing 'what you can, with what you have, where you are'. Now, if you were deluging and spamming us every day, then it would get too much. Judging by all the different threads on the main page that are un-related to the Palestinians (not to mention the thousands on the entire forum), you are from despotically destroying the wonderfully free & diverse nature of this messageboard. |

as for discussion, people should feel free to discuss. I have no idea why it's so difficult to stay out of threads that you don't want to have any part of..it's so easy..
btw, the "bait" thing is just a convenient excuse for people that know that they have no leg to stand on when it comes to arguing about the recent events..none. It would only make them look ignorant and their true biases would surely show....but that's just my opinion..:D |

I was already thinking that there may be some people who would prefer that this issue was not referred to, precisely because they fear that their arguments would not stand up to some moral scrutiny. The person who started the thread, however, was brave enough to have the courage of their convictions.
Also, with a situation that is as fundamentally unjust as with the lack of freedom for the Palestinians, of course the argument is going to naturally be one-sided & biased in favour of the oppressed, and inflammatory towards the occupier. You do not see judicial verdicts against the guilty being condemned for not being balanced and equally as critical of of the victim, as for the perpetrator of the crime. |

With all due respect AJ, no one on here can dictate what topics are worthy of discussion. We all have different passions, interests and concerns..it's only natural
For example, I will refer to the thread about the cruelty to animals..I may believe the issue of animals being mistreated, for our gain, has been beaten to death but I choose to keep that opinion to myself and let the people in that thread have their discussion without feeling the need to jump in and nullify their concerns..I realize that some people are passionate about that particular cause..so why should I ridicule them because it's not something that keeps ME awake at night? |

Indeed, there are some threads and posts I strongly disagree with, but I am calm and mature enough to let it go and dont participate unless I would like to contribute to a discussion.
I guess that's how you can observe and tell a lot of qualities about the person. Opinions are like s - everybody has one, but its how people handle these things that says a lot about their character and personality.

It is a shame that discussions can descend into such personal insults, as it can make people think twice about posting on here, which is not healthy; however, people should try not to get too disillusioned, as it just the nature of the beast. If just a few of the more mature posts on these types of topics can increase awareness of important issues in some of those who were hitherto ignorant/apathetic, even with all the accompanying bitching, it is still worth it. |
