I find the concept of those "silent parties" to be pretty ridiculous and pretentious. |
which is the point of mutek.
the festival is just as much about technology and different approaches to bringing the music to an audience than it is about the music itself.
this was a free fairmont show...if they exposed a few new people to the music, then pretentiousness is not so bad is it? |

If I'm in public and I'm listening to music I usually wear Sennheiser PX 200s

They're not full-sized (just enough to cover the opening of the ear), but I like them much better than earbuds. I find earbuds of similar quality to be overpriced and in the end, they're just uncomfortable.
However, if I am in the city I like to use my Sony MDR-7506's. It has nothing do with looks, it's the fact that it's too damn loud to use the Senns. |

Nothing lets me know someone's listening to crap music like when they're wearing earbuds. Maybe it's just because there's so much freaking noise to drown out here, but this thread is the first time I've ever heard the notion of someone looking like a douche for wearing massive headphones. Best thing in more recent years is seeing a hot woman walk by with a pair of $800 headphones on, because I KNOW that whatever she's listening to must be quality.
idk, as a music enthusiast, nothing makes me want to ask a person what they're listening to more than when I see they've got quality headphones on. Only headphones that I think make people look kinda douchey are Skull Candy (but that's mostly just broke teenagers), and Beats by Dre (just for spending $300 on a $100 pair of headphones).
Still, I've yet to see anything more douchey than full grown men wearing Lady GaGa earbuds :whip: :sadgreen: |

| Well I'm kinda surprised that so many people have nothing against full sized cans. Still , I'm kinda tired of lugging around huge headphones around, especially when I have my specs on. |

Probably explains why I've only seen the 18 and under crowd wearing them on the street and a couple of the desperate to be accepted 20+ |
Who gives a about the demographics of who's wearing big headphones, I respect people who wear em because they are people who actually care for music quality, and are probably listening to some pretty good music.
It's not often but when I take the subway, I use my HDJ-1000s, they fold up nicely and don't take too much space. |
