what? Savard has been pretty damn healthy since the lockout and he's recovered from the concussion (which was a cheapshot). He's arguably the best passer in the game and has played with Kovalchuk before. Parise, on the other hand, is overrated and has been since he came in. "Parise's better" - no, really, he's not. He'll be Gionta in a few years and somebody will be stuck paying him a ton of money.
2005-2006 Savard 82 28 69 97
2005-2006 Kovalchuk 78 52 46 98 |

ummm gionta had a good year last year.
you would seriously take a 33 year old that had his bell rung so badly and has never been the same since? over a young buck who is a better all around player and will play for your team for many more years????
have you seen savard's contract?
it is easy to figure out why no one hired you to be their gm. i'll take a hit of whatever you are smoking though. |

you don't win championships with a ton of wingers. the devils have chosen kovalchuk over parise, which is the right decision. they need a top line center. CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE WON BY TEAMS WHO ARE STRONG DOWN THE MIDDLE. how you make the statement that Parise is a better overall player is a surprise to me. Parise plays wing, which has the least defensive responsibility while Savard plays center, which is the toughest position period.
The devils would have to drop a few overpaid players like Rolston, White, and go with minimum players. Sure, Savard wouldn't play as long as Parise, but that doesn't matter. How long will Brodeur last? Devils have a short window for success, so if they structure it right, they can go full throttle at the end of Brodeur's term and then have a few contracts die off so that they can get a replacement goalie. As it stands, they have no quality replacement goalie.
If the devils are stupid enough to sign two big money wingers, they can forget about winning a championship in the future. |

maybe if he starts using 'rogaine' again, but i'm not a devils fan. i'm just giving my opinion on what the devils should be doing. |

My guess is a sign and trade. $2.75 million is a little too much for a rookie goalie, especially one who hasn't played a full season. As a Blackhawks fan, I hate to see him go, but we lost way too many players and we still open slots. It's looking like Marty Turco for a year. |

Chicago could have learned from this. |
Unfortunately, Dale Tallon was the GM. He gave out too many big contracts and in turned screwed the team this year. I will say though, I'm impressed by what Stan Bowman is doing. |
