Here, Nou, let's check a few things:

1) What's the difference in pronunciation among the words "Mary", "marry", and "merry"?
2) Do "rain" and "ran" sound the same?
3) For that matter, do "pin" and "pen" sound the same?
4) How about "ilk" and "elk"?
5) Do writer and rider sound alike?
6) Does the vowel in "beg" sound like the vowel in "bay" or like the vowel in "beck"?

1. 'Mary' sounds quick while 'marry' is a little longer with a stronger emphasis on the 'arr' sound; 'merry' sounds like a completely different word.

2. No.

3. No. There have been times at work people will ask for the collectible pins and I will think they are asking for pens and tell them we don't have any (I actually got in trouble over this before my vacation :p )

4. Nope.

5. No.

6. Like in 'Beck'.

I'll record all of this and a short story tomorrow.

But you're not in the Pacific Northweat, Jori, this shouldn't be relevant to you :p

Where are you, again? Kentucky?

There you go, Banora:

1) Do "cot" and "caught" sound alike?
2) Does "I" sound like "Ah"?
3) "Do" and "Due" sound the same. Yes or no?
4) "Feel" and "fill". Same or different?
5) "Fool" and "Full". Same or different?
6) You do pronounce the "r" in "heart", right?
7) "Can't" and "Kent" sound the same. Yes or no?
8) The first two sounds in "Cow" and "Cat" are the same, right?

1. No; 'Cot' is short with a strong stop on the 't' while 'caught' is longer, spoken with the mouth slightly wider, and a hard emphasis on the 'ght' sound.

2. lolno.

3. No... nor does 'Due' and 'dew' sound alike.

4. No. 'Feel' is much longer and not as sharp as 'fill'.

5. Barely, but no. 'Fool' is spoken with the lips pursed in a circle and 'full' has the 'u' further back in the throat.

6. Of course.

7. Uh, no.

8. Hell no :wtf:

Oh, just saw your edit, you got me confused there for a while :p

Quite what I thought... though 6 surprised me.
