I love ice wine. It is the perfect desert wine to sip after a great meal.

This is probably my favourite ice wine.

In fairness, I was talking about their regular and late harvest Rieslings, I haven't tried their Ice Riesling.

So basically anything by Startus is an out right wine for me.

What i have tried...

2006 Stratus White
2008 Stratus Riesling
2008 Stratus Gewürztraminer
2008 Icewine Red
2006 Stratus Red
2007 Stratus Gamay
2007 Stratus Malbec

I had the 2006 Chardonnay while there waiting for our broken bus to be fixed while sitting in a field in the sun ... amazing....

its pretty intresting the way they make their wine. they move there grapes through gravity...

you can read about it here.

Try the ones I listed on my first post. I've tried a decent amount of Ontario Rieslings and those are my favourites so far.

A while back I would have never thought to try Ontario wine but Geoff convinced me that we have some of the best vineyards in the world... Now I am an advocate for ontario wines - Our rieslings are just as good or better than the German wines.

I recently tried Two Vines Riesling which was picked as a 'summers choice' or something like that by LCBO... it was decent. But could have been sweet and could have been a bit drier.

I never thought about trying NY wines... but I guess they would have similar growing conditions as Ontario... Any recommendations?

Absolutely! Tell me what types you are aiming for and I will give you some tips. Hosmer winery has won a ton of international awards for its Dry and Semi-dry Reisling, and I can atest that they are both great choices in that "genre" of wine.

Also, if you have a free day, doing a wine tastings trail is SUPER cheap in upstate and gorgeous! (You can see pics on my facebook, I do one every summer when I go home). They are all on the lakes, have great views, and a limo costs $~30/person for 8 hours. $2 tastings at each winery and you spend $50 on a full day in a gorgeous area with great wines.

The Finger Lakes is a hidden gem, and, having worked at a B&B for many years, many europeans who find it actually claim that the wines here are just as good as their own. I uber-promote going there for a day in the summer (preferably a weekday to avoid buses). its AMAZING!!

I tend to like more of the semi-dry rieslings. I've added Hosmer onto my list. Im also looking for some Gewurz. to try out as well.
And the winetasting trail sounds like an amazing day. I'd love to do that.
epicaricacy

one of the most dynamic wines with a very fair price point. If you want to please snobby wine people on a tight budget, this would be the one to go for.
