Thanks... thats something I always struggled with. What kind of wine to bring for the host if you don't know his/her wine taste or if you know you can't afford his/her wine taste. |

the bottle is usually around the 13 to 14$ range.
the other cabaret sauvignon from 2004 is a bit more, but still well worth it. If you like the liberty school wines and want something a little fancier, Treana wines are made by the same growers. The price point for these is 30+. |

the best thing to do is to ask...if they do not know, ask what you are eating. I don't know if the LCBOs have wine experts in store, (the SAQ here does) but if they do they can be very helpful in helping you find the right wine. They are very well trained here, but then again in frog country we drink a lot of wine.
On an unrelated note...i got a few free bottles of wayne greztky's wine for free at a golf tournament last week. Not something that i would buy considering the pricing is way off, but i was surprised that it didn't taste like old jock straps like most other celebrity wines.

Good advise about asking what's for dinner.
Although I have only ever been to one SAQ I was really upset to see they had next to no Ontario wine. lol |

if white is more your thing, at 15$ (roughly) this one is easy to drink, and it always seems to_please those that are not big wine drinkers.

and for something really different (great with dessert)...this cidery makes amazing stuff. I highly suggest the "degel" series, which is a little expensive due to the complex process in making it (quantities are limited every year)...but it is a crowdpleaser.

if you guys are ever in the eastern townships in quebec, visit the cidery. You can have a really great time there and the scenery is awesome.
ontario wines suck, to be honest most canadian wines do:p |

I've always been interested in trying this because the bottle is awesome. But everytime I judge a wine by its bottle (with the exception of Black Tower) I am really disappointed. |

it isn't going to win wine of the year, but at the price that they sell it i find it to be one of the best whites for the cost. Then again i might be a little biased because my gf pretty much drinks this a few times a week. When it goes on sale we stock up.
the other voga products do not please me at all, only_this one. |

I like the voga. I bought it once because it was the only pinot in the chilled section and turns out it was pretty good.
Mark T has a new white...I drank a bunch of it on the weekend (oops!) :) Mark what is it again?
My new favorite red is Goats Do Roam from South Africa. Cheesey name but a smooth red that packs quite the alcohol punch (14%) for about $12 through vintages. |

I never liked wine either but I've realized a lot of things I didn't enjoy to drink/eat in the past I absolutely love now. I've definitely gotten an aquired taste for red wine and appreciate it a lot more - especially when pairing with a delicious meal!!
I'm SUPER into shiraz. Absolute favourite! The heavier, bolder, more complex & spicier the shiraz, the more I like :). Having a glass of shiraz with a nice steak dinner or pasta dinner just makes it complete IMO.
When I'm cheap I go with Fuzion Shiraz it's super bold and only costs $7.45 at your local LCBO.
This one is my favourite - Casillero del Diablo Shiraz from Chile. Bright, dark and deep purple in colour with aromas of ripe blackberries, dark plums, chocolate, and pepper and a touch of vanilla and toasted American oak.
I haven't tried many of the upper brand Shiraz' so I'm hoping someone on TA can suggest a bomb ass Shiraz for me when I cook a meal for Sarah and I? :) |
