For the price, I like Wallaroo from Wine Rack over a few bottles that cost upwards of 10 - 12 more. |

What's on the shelf right now? Let me see....
Always:
Montecillo - Year after year this Spanish red is my go to. Comes from Rioja, uses primarily temperanillo grapes with a splash of garnacha. Perfect with anything involving cumin like a spiced gouda or a chili (yep! wine with chili paring) I've collected bottles of this running back to 1995 (unreal!!!) and the 1998 is also excellent. Those are the Reserva wines with the dark blue or black labels & run about $30 a bottle and up. The standard Crianza (deep red label) runs about $15 and is an excellent value. It becomes even better if you let it breathe for about an hour.
Amarone Montresor - My favourite amarone. Have this with steak, lamb, or even duck and you might not buy another amarone again. About $30/bottle & worth it.
Argento Malbec - The first of the malbec onslaught from South America. Pairs brilliantly with tomato based pastas and sauces, also works well with lamb or even by itself. Dirt cheap at $10/bottle, but I do miss the days it was $8.50.
Louis Latour Pinot Noir - Pinot noir is such a finicky grape that if it's not treated well and cared for right, it will be utter as a wine. That said, I love the dark cherry, ripe fruit, and slow, tart finish on it. This one runs about $18/bottle.
Yes they're all reds, but those are the regulars on my shelf.
For a white (a side of wine that I'm typically fond of save a few gerwuztraminers from Alsace) I'd recommend a late autumn riesling from Ontario. There are a few, and I have yet to be disappointed by any. |

if white is more your thing, at 15$ (roughly) this one is easy to drink, and it always seems to_please those that are not big wine drinkers.

I usually don't drink white, but I am gonna give this a shot today :) |

As for wine? Don't really know but I'm not a huge fan of dry wines...either go somewhere in the middle or I tend to go towards the sweeter ones. |

All reds will give me a headache if I drink too much of it, but I find the sweeter, the worse the hangover. Wine hangovers suck! :( |

*Caution* Far too easy to drink... bottle will empty faster than expected. |

the best thing to do is to ask...if they do not know, ask what you are eating. |
You shouldn't expect the host to serve your wine with dinner. Wine is usually a gift for the host to have at a later time. |
