Cats and Dogs in China - WTF Story of the Day

The haunting sound of animal wailing fills the air.
Dogs are crammed so tightly together into tiny metal cages they cannot even bark. Yards away the blood-spattered carcasses of others lie on the ground. Cages of dogs and cats - some of them bred as domestic pets - are piled high and when an animal is chosen for sale it is bludgeoned with an iron bar until it is close to death before, being handed over to the purchaser.
"The customers want fresh 'live' meat," said Huang Lu Sheng, one of the stallholders. "When the dog dies slowly there is much more flavour in the meat. Some customers want the dog half-dead. Then the taste is very strong and they can prove to their customers that the meat is really fresh. I do not care about the dog suffering. It is only to eat and the customer is the one that chooses how it should die. But most customers actually want the dog beaten to death and put in a plastic bag. It's easier to carry like that."

It's false, no human society eats human flesh except in very special circumstances (such as eating the flesh of an honoured enemy).
But, I'm actually intrigued and wondering if anyone that thinks this is cruel is also against the consumption of regular meat under similar circumstances. Mind you, the cute "kill-the-cow-with-a-taser" method is not practised worldwide. |

Cats and dogs are largely carnivores - you shouldn't eat meat that eats other meat. It's not traditional!
I'll bet you drink period blood and your own urine when it suits you, eh, Lira? Damn those taboos - I'll do what I want because I'm an individual! |

Wait, what?!
No, it's just that whenever there's a thread about vegetarians everyone is quick to point out how natural it is to eat meat and whatnot, but then when some people you don't know devour those lovely animals we keep as pets then it's suddenly wrong.
My diet hardly makes me an individual :conf: |

actually, i remember one of my biology teachers saying that the most nutrituous meat to eat is human meant. You have all the nutrients required in the body as it is a body similar to yours. IT would probably be good to eat it in small portions however. I think i would need a source for this though as hearsay from a teacher isnt really so reassuring.
So by this token, carnivore meat is probably more nutrient rich then herbivore meat. i would asume though with the higher amount of protein, would come high amounts of cholesterol!. |
