BETA coming FALL 2010 to Waterloo (pg. 7)

I've had the pleasure of checking out the progress the last week.

I lent a hand with some sound (albeit small) so the lighting tech could program the lights. The truss is indeed retarded.

I had a look at the sound too. Dynacord for the win. This place is gonna smoke (literally - they were testing that out when I was there). I don't want to say too much for fear of letting too much out of the bag, but people, this place is for real.

Most Toronto venues would even struggle to do something like this.

I agree, no Toronto venues have made the struggle yet. I do not really like to compare our venue and label it by saying it is like a Toronto venue. Honestly there is nothing in Toronto like it. At least for now. If there was I would be there every weekend :)

Also I have the displeasure of announcing that we are slightly behind on renovations and will be cancelling all events this upcoming weekend.

SO JUST TO BE CLEAR we WILL NOT BE OPEN THIS WEEKEND.

Really anxious to check this place out :)

And me.

Let's do a reunion weekend in KW in the new year. My schedule is cramped from now until the end of the semester.

I find EDM crowd very... specific in their taste of music. Very hard to please everyone. You have one bad night, or you play music not to taste of someone, and you probably won't see that person again. Hard to find a crowd that is open minded, and willing to give a club more than one chance in KW. (esp when they can spend their money in Toronto for more known quality of clubbing) And I'm going to slit my throat if I see one more commercial house based club in KW. (and that's about the most popular EDM music in KW area):p

Srsly. I'd kill to see a good trance or prog based club in KW.
It's not that we don't want EDM club to succeed in KW area. It's just hard to argue against record of failed clubs in KW area.

(For the record, I go to UW, though not recently attending classes due to work) and somewhat well informed of EDM scene in KW area

I can't speak for the KW area but I can speak from experience in seeing the EDM seen grow from being all underground in Windsor. I've lived here my entire life, and have gone to the countless clubs that have tried to do EDM nights, and full on EDM clubs...and now look at us. We have Ferry, Cox, Lawler, Ritchie etc. etc. coming to our town.

I think it IS possible to start a scene, especially with a lot of EDM becoming more University students listening to tunes than before. They may be new to the scene, or may not know that many DJs, but they know they like a certain sound.

I used to go to BBR years ago when it was called Blast and there would be a handful of people in the club max. Now, BBR just celebrated their 5th anniversary and the club was packed...on a Wednesday!

I know KW is different b/c it's so close to Toronto so people can just easily go there, whereas in Windsor we're quite far away, but people can't go to Toronto every weekend.

You just have to keep trying, and eventually a scene can break through. I wish Beta the best of luck!

and I think that is the major issue....too close to Toronto...KW area is going to have to compete with Toronto clubs and that will be difficult.

For those in the area, it saves a big pain in the ass in driving. For those that commute to TO to work, they don't feel like coming back to party.

As for myself, this may give me something different to do on the weekend nights I stay at my parents (between Guelph and Fergus).

AJ nailed it. I hate driving to and from Toronto. Hate hate hate it.

ChemEnhanced Strikes again!!! Another negative comment by the man himself. Anyone else feel like banning this guy from Beta once it opens? You know he'll be the guy walking around the club dissing it.

I'm all for the club and seriously hyped, I'll be making trips from my town on a regular basis. Sure will beat the 2.5hr drive to Toronto.
