I think it would make sense to make the clause "due to medical condition of the person" or something like that

but now I'm thinking - how about these tiny babies born severely brain-damaged or physically damaged, and who potentially will live a very limited life - will their parents have the right to end their lives?

I would agree with allowing parents to have the choice to end their babies life, if they were born with any kind of crippling condition or deformity. I just don't agree with "assisted suicide", if the only reason for it, is because you hate your life and want to die.

I'm not against anyone being able to have assisted suicide however, I highly doubt you would find any doctor that would agree to assist someone in killing themselves just because they hate life.

it is a slippery slope tho.

once you allow the typical euthanasia - dying person with no cure. who is to say that not everyone has the right to choose that.

We need to hurry up and ascend already to non-corporeal beings so this is a non-issue.

As I said, I'm not against anyone being able to have assisted suicide. It would be hard to find a doctor who would assist someone who does not have a medical condition that warrants assisted suicide. If a doctor did assist someone who did not have a medical condition they would most likely end up loosing their licence.

If someone wants to commit suicide or end their life then they are mentally ill, no question about it. To help that person die would be committing a crime. The only way this would work is by letting people die when they are in a vegetable state and even then you don't really know if they want to live or die.

That's exactly why I think there should be some sort of counselling process, so they can avoid this happening.

I agree....for any assisted suicide the person should go through a few couselling sessions first...if for no other reason then to give them time to really think about what they are doing.

I agree with it in severe cases where the person is suffering greatly. We put animals out their misery but don't extend the same courtesy to human beings who choose to not want to live due to a diminished or non existent quality of life. As a society, we demand that they stay alive because it makes US feel better.

There would undoubtedly have to be an extensive process, counselling..etc...for obvious reasons.

I think only for terminally ill patients that are basically waiting to die.

There is something to be said for the quality of life vs quantity of life. And, if I can choose between either spending 1 last month with my family, enjoying it - then passing away gracefully and not in pain, or - dragging out my life as long as possible, the only way I'm getting by is because my body is pumped full of tubes feeding me / taking away my waste and I'm barely conscious, and when I am conscious - I'm in extreme pain knowing that I'm simply waiting to die : give me assisted suicide.

I totally agree!

Now now...

One caveat with my statement...

You have to be suffering from a terminal illness, end stage, and have to be suffering severely from it...

I don't condone suicide just because they don't want to live anymore..
