While Rosenhan's conclusions indeed are somewhat flawed Spitzer's criticism is mostly off, being either butthurt or using typical politicians techniques to water down evidence and arguments. "The real problem is not x but y and we need to improve on that. And all the problems result merly from people not following the rules / procedures and but not from their inadequacy" Basically talking a load of and making horrible comparisons so he doesn't have do deal with uncomfortable facts.

I also think the issue on all sides is again how personal they take this.

It's really 'assaulting psychology' vs 'defending psychology'. It's people who like it and who'd do anything to paint if pink versus people who don't like and who'd do anything to paint it black.

Instead of just objectively trying to answer if it's a science or not. And leaving out of the quaestion if that's a 'good' or a 'bad' thing.

People are even throwing with arguments like 'Well, we can't help this.', mein gott.

But you can't objectively answer that since it you'd first need to define what a science is, which involves huge walls of texts and ultimately Nefardec popping in and argueing over how a definition should be defined in today's system of definitions which are pre-defined by education.

igottaknow is probably the best person to ever post on tranceaddict.

he deserves and award or something. If tranceaddicts cared about anything they would have arranged that already.

I'm pretty sure that Spitzer did also argue that psychology ISN'T a science, rather, that it cannot be treated as the same kind of science as, for example, medicine. And psychology has always erred in that it tried to dress itself up as medicine (assessments, diagnosis, etc). The point is that Rosenhan's arguments were flawed because they were based on the same assumption.

I think. :p

Oh, okay, so why is my assertion that psychology isn't a science then so flawed?

Note that I'm not defending Rosenhan's investigation or something. I think this 'harm' or 'use' is too abstract. I just don't think psychology is truly scientific as much as just brainstorming a lot about the human mind. It's more akin to philosophy than actual thorough scientific inquiry.
