Yeah, because the crowd wasn't encouraged to bring ironic signs or anything! Oh, wait...

Also, where did you get these pictures from?

Obviously, at an ironic rally, you're supposed to bring SERIOUS signs. That's just common logic for the illogic mass.

I am pretty sure the right in our country suffers a general irony deficit. Consider also this example, posted in another thread:
quote:
IDIOCY WATCH.... In 2009, three Americans were detained and imprisoned by the Iranian government while hiking near the Iran/Iraq border. Two of the three -- Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer -- remain behind bars, accused of espionage.

The United States, of course, wants Iran to set them free, and this morning, the State Department's Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Philip Crowley used Twitter to send a sardonic message to the Iranian president: "Happy birthday President Ahmadinejad. Celebrate by sending Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer home. What a gift that would be.... Your 54th year was full of lost opportunities. Hope in your 55th year you will open Iran to a different relationship with the world."

Former half-term Gov. Sarah Palin (R) apparently only read the first four words, doesn't know what sardonic humor is, and responded with a Twitter message that's so blisteringly stupid, I almost wonder if someone else posted it to make her look like an idiot. The tweet read:
"Happy B'Day Ahmadinejad wish sent by US Govt. Mind boggling foreign policy: kowtow & coddle enemies; snub allies. Obama Doctrine is nonsense"*

I'd swear she's getting dumber.

Honestly, how could anyone above the age of 12 look at Philip Crowley's messages and interpret them as "coddling enemies"?

* Update: I wondered if Palin, embarrassed, might pull the item down once she realized how ridiculous it was. Alas, she doubled down with yet another tweet: "Americans awaken 2 bizarre natl security thinking of Obama Admn: Ahmadinejad b'day greeting after call 4 Israel's destruction speaks volumes."

Actually, Palin's inability to read at a junior-high-school level is what speaks volumes.

Irony is something elitist liberals partake in as they sit in a circle giggling at Starbucks, right? Not appropriate for the Gen-u-wine Common Conservative Person, who knows what is right in his gut and needs none of that book-larnin' to tell him otherwise.

I'm sorry, but if you have cheetahs as pets and you snatch a hot wife away from her Kazakh homeland, you can be anything but stupid!

Though that is amazing indeed.

American politics is a joke.

Albeit a funny one.

Where else in the world could we have people like Jon Stewart, Glenn Beck, Keith Oldermann or Stephen Colbert!?

He's not at all.

Kevin, as you've said before when examples of people who vote Republican that are complete idiots who don't represent the party, it's just as easy to find that element on the other end of the political spectrum. The people who attended the rally lean more left, sure, but the event itself didn't cater to politics. You mentioned Yousef having backed Iran, but he didn't speak at all. He was just singing. Did you see the reels of footage of the media promoting fear? It contained pieces from all the major networks, including a healthy dose from Keith Olbermann. Did you listen to Jon's speech at the end? His message is about finding common ground between us, not focusing on the elements that divide us. He has said many times that his true frustration is with the 24 hour news channels not calling out politcians on their lies, again on both sides of the aisle.

Please, do me a personal favor and find Jon's speech online and watch it with an open mind, then tell me what you think. Maybe I'm missing something, and if so, I'd like to know.

And to everyone here who believes in what Jon Stewart stands for yet gangs up on Kevin, you are totally missing the point, and are as much a part of the problem as anyone else. And if your defense is to say you're just kidding, it's very easy to find where the joking stops in those threads and people get fired up.

Am I the only one that thinks all of those "Brown People" signs are photoshopped? Some of them seem awfully in focus compared with the people around them. Not to mention 4 people wide in every shot, even though they're different signs.

I mean, this top one is almost as wide as the ing sound booth. And is there any doubt when I just tried to paste the image and EVERY one of those pics was montaged together?
