Let's Talk About iPads (pg. 8)

At the risk of being mistaken for a Mac apologist, I have to say that some of you (and you're not at all alone) go pretty far overboard with all of this. I fail to see the benefit of a self-imposed blanket ban on a manufacturer. In that regard, the Mac-bashers are every bit as myopic as the hordes of sheep they mercilessly mock for their willingness to throw piles of cash at anything in an Apple box. For every hipster destroying his hearing with white ear buds, it seems there are another ten people who refuse to even touch a Macbook, but who don't hesitate to hop on the crusade against them.

By no means do I think that everyone needs iPads, Macbooks, and iPhones. Then again, I don't see why people looking at tablets, laptops, or cell phones shouldn't consider each of those as an option. The only conceivable rationale is one based solely on price. If that's all there is to it, then that rage comes off as nothing more than bitterness and [unrelentingly denied] jealousy. inb4hate

The fact that Macs are, in some cases, more expensive than alternatives doesn't have any impact on the quality of the machines. I've never heard anyone argue that a Toyota Yaris blows 3-series BMWs out of the water. I don't know why the logic doesn't carry over.

Needs moar "s0n".

And I have to agree with David. While I don't own any Apple products I have to admire their brand. That's what this really comes down to imo. They are charging a premium for their brand and their ability to market it allows them to do so. I do very close to the same thing every day and I would love to be able to do it at the same level as Apple. As a consumer, I fully understand it and I don't mind paying a premium to get what I want. Whether it's brand or features or color - I'm going to get what I want. I would have to believe that there are an awful lot of folks out there who have those same feeling towards Apple. So while you question their commitment to an inferior product, all they are thinking about is how happy they are with their branded product. Eventually, it turns into an argument of preference or taste. For example, I like the movie "Meet The Parents" while many on this board do not. But how can you judge me because of that?

I'd just like to point out I actually have an iPhone, so don't lump me in with the "hater/jealousy" pile. I just find the iPad an incredeibly pointless device.

I thought it would be, but it really is handy. There's nothing groundbreaking about it, but it's all you need for basic computer use (and a hell of a lot easier and more fun to carry around and use). One of those things you just have to try for a few days. I was mainly referring to Moongoose and tranceypantzzzzzzzz, though

Except the 3 series is the ultimate driving machine and the iphone is sooo far away from the ultimate phone machine that you cant really draw parallels :) And a Yaris i this comparison would be one of those first gen GSM phones of 15 years ago...you could call and text...and thats about it :)

And its not like im agianst all apple products...i use an ipod (classic 80Gb) and i was thinking of buying a proper mac computer on several occasions (though i didnt), im just against useless things...which is why im against the iphone and the ipad. Well the iphone is not exactly useless, it fits the role of a Yaris quite well.

100% agreed. I was a skeptic until one was given to me without my asking. I figured I'd just give it a shot and now I love it. It's not something you NEED to have, but it definitely has a purpose.
