So what is the big deal with the TSA pat downs? (pg. 4)

If all the TSA pat-down agents looked like this, no one would give a fcuk about their junk.

Just choose the x-ray machine, and you'll worry less about pat-downs. People have choices.

Yes, boats are great when it takes weeks/month (almost) to travel long distances.

then I guess he better book more time off work then:D

He could also just learn to fly and buy his own plane.....see there are solutions.....if you really don't like being searched then you can find alternatives....using these planes isn't a right.

Yep.

I love how there were pranks etc played on airport security. One guy shows up in a speedo, takes off his clothing, says "What, am I doing anything illegal?", "This is for security sake" etc. haha.

I am sure that many people on this board have been more manhandled at clubs then the TSA is doing to people.

Yep, genitals rubbed many times.

some people get offended not because of the actual searching, but because it invades their dignity. especially in some cultures

There are better ways to do airport security. Like Israel.

Note that this (Israel's) strategy protects the airport itself, not just past the checkpoint. Someone could easily bring a bomb and blow it up in line at security.

Also, consider the unknowns in radiation from the new scanners. Ionizing radiation (breaks DNA bonds), that's concentrated on your skin (instead of dispersed throughout the body like an X-Ray). Enough studies have not been done.

I get enough radiation just being 30,000 feet in the air, I don't need anymore, especially flying 50x a year, and going through a full body scanner potentially every time.

The most I can do is opt out and get groped. I don't really care about people touching me, in fact I'll moan a little bit and close my eyes, just to make the TSA a little less comfortable :p.

Isreal does a great job. Our security officers are not even in the same ball park when it comes to the training they get in Israel. It wouldn't be hard to implement the type of system they have in Israel but I'm sure people would be in an uproar when the cost to fly increases 100%. The increase in cost of training and cost of staff would be very high and that is going to get passed down to the customers. The cost to fly is already too high.

You're right, I haven't thought of the cost. According to this article, an Israeli airline spent ~$56 per passenger, while US spent only ~$6. Of course, we'd have to adjust for scale (Israel is tiny), and other factors. Thanks.

I've been reading stories everywhere - a lady whose shirt was pulled down in front of the entire flight, exposing her breasts, a video of a younge girl crying in her mothers arms because the dude is literally sticking his hand down her pants, a boy with leg braces who was told to remove them, walk through the detector and he wouldn't be allowed to bring his braces onboard, while his parents kept saying that if he takes them off, he will never walk again (recovery after surgery)

one of the blogs I read, the girl posted pictures freely available online of people's bodies who passed through the new x-ray machine - so basically you never know when your naked body will show up online

it's a bit crazy me thinks :\

Personally, I think many of the the stories of the people getting manhandled are overblow. I think people see that the media is covering these stories so people are making them up. The TSA guidelines state that the agent can run his hand up the thigh. That is all. All the other stories I think are made up. With new rules there also will be some issues. With so many people flying every day you will hear of stories like that kid in braces story. I bet that was resolved without problems. The key is to stay calm and if there is something you don't understand, ask to speak to a supervisor.

I do believe those naked pictures things because I have seen them myself and reputable tech security companies have shown that the pictures are easy to hack and download. That to me is lame. Give me enhanced pat down over the scan any day.
