Do you really believe that? He had to take a pay cut simply because Sirius isn't making as much money off him anymore. When he went to Sirius they new there would be a huge jump in audience numbers. Stern doesn't have the drawing power to bring people to Sirius anymore.

I agree .

Remember everyone Stern is not hurting for money- he stayed because he wanted to (for him and his staff) and because Sirius wanted him back and made him an offer. I dont see how someone getting offered hundreds of million of dollars can be seen as a negative, especially in this day and age where fewer people are spending there disposable income.

No one here has actual numbers that will prove that Stern is not bringing people anymore to sirius so that argument is pointless. What Stern did is keep sirius steady and afloat because if he would have not re-signed millions and yes I do mean millions of subscribers would have canceled there subscriptions. Now that Stern is staying they will be launching a new Stern app that will certainly bring more revenue to the company- he is Sirius/Xm and without him they can not survive. There is no other exclusive content on Sirius that you can not get anywhere else.

In a study from Bridge Ratings on Howard Stern listeners, nearly 2 mil fans tune in to the satellite or webcast of his Sirius sho

I really do... I believe that if he would leave Sirius, the company would be bankrupt... especially if he cashed out on his stock...
With the show now being avail on their app many more people will sign on... (not me i listen to the show for free... shhhh... don't tell nobody)

I'm sure if he would go to iTunes as an example, then yeah he'd make more money but he cares about other things as well not only money.

All I'm saying is that having to take a 30% pay cut suggests he has not been successful, or at least as successful as he would have everyone believe. I say this as a fan of his show. Let's be real here; he has not delivered on expectations; subsequently, they re-evaluated his worth as being 30% less then they originally thought. That's not success.

I highly doubt all listeners to the howard stern show would cancel their subscription if he was no longer on the air. If he only has 2 million listeners out of the over 20 million subscribers I don't think the company will go bankrupt without him.

You can't look at the numbers as strictly 400 million dollars.....you have to look at the fact that he had to take less money to do the same job and for the same time frame. If your boss said that you had to take a 30% pay cut I don't think that you would be telling everyone how successful you've become.

You have no idea what your talking about. In 2006 Sirius had 600K subscribers, since then Stern has triggered the collapse and merger of Sirius /XM, they just celebrated the 20 millionth subscriber last week. Even if Stern brought in half of that he has exceeded any expectations they had for him and AGAIN thats WHY THEY made him an offer for another 5 years. You dont make that kind of offer on someone who failed. Below is an article from 2006 pre XM merger- I was too lazy to adjust the numbers to now include 20 million but you do the math and see how much of a success he was. He is not chasing the money at this point in his career and is happy where he is at - which is why he chose to stay. He revolutionized an entire industry and form of media- how that is a failure is beyond me.

"Is Howard Stern worth $500 Million over a five year period? Let's break it down. When Howard signed on with Sirius in 2005, Sirius' current subscriber base was 600,000. As of March 31, 2006, Sirius' subscriber base was 4,000,000. That is a net increase of 3.4 Million subscribers. Even if you only credit Howard with 1/2 of the new subscribers, (which is an EXTREMELY conservative estimate...I would guess he is responsible for most, if not all of the new subscribers) that would mean he is responsible for bringing Sirius 1,700,000 new subscribers. Let's now do the math. $16.95 times 1,700,000 is $28,815,000 per month. That works out to almost $350 Million per year.

Keep in mind, that if we stick with these conservative figures, and assume that there will be no additional subscribers due to Howard, Sirius will gross over 1.7 BILLION dollars in the next five years as a direct result of the Howard Stern Show. I personally feel that this number is understating the potential gross significantly, and that the real number may be in the 20 to 50 billion dollar range. (Not even taking into consideration the advertising revenues that Howard will generate.) Howard's compensation of $500,000,000 works out to less than 1/3 of the gross. Howards presence has also brought Sirius from the second-fiddle position behind XM to the market leader in less than 9 months. Not a bad deal for Sirius."

Just because it is on the news does not mean that is his entire deal- you are not factoring in stock shares, options, bonuses on increase in subscribers, etc- all things that do not get published. Do you really believe that he had a one page contract that said 400 million dollars for 5 years (sign here) on it lol come on- Stern would be happy for people not to know what he is making anyway.

You have no idea how loyal Stern Fans are since you are not one- they chose to pay a monthly service charge to hear him- why would you think they would not cancel to hear him somewhere else.

Dont sound like it.

So if Stern signed with Itunes and you had only a monthly subscription would you follow him to Itunes ? in this same scenario would you cancel Sirius?

Also, who is the latest person to ride the sybian? who says the phrase lets some hoes? name both Erics on the show? and where did robin go on her last trip to help people learn about nutrition? - no cheating.

No, what he doesn't sound like is an idiot. BTW, I used to love listening to the Stern show before he took his act to Sirius. Honestly, answer the early question... in what world is being forced to take a 30% pay cut considered a success?
