Don't be stupid Kenny. You never know how the story actual did go.
"I make what they call underground dance music,” remarks Armin Van Buuren, as we talk in a hotel...
So, who is "they"? Maybe he meant the hotel pesonel, who don't know about music. Of course for such people trance is underground.
Do you think my granddad has ever heard of Armin van Buuren?
Armin knows he makes commercial tracks (too). He already said it in some Mirage interview. Nothing new there... |

Swedish House Mafia and others like Armin make music people want to dance to and actualy buy.
I just checked beatport top downloads and it's mainly commercial quirky sounding tech nhouse which revolves around driving beats and careful sound sculpting.
I like the current scene a lot. |

As a side note, I see trance is represneted by about 3000 tracks on BP whereas tech house is 19000! |

| "Underground Dance Music" sounds about right to me, he isnt anywhere near reaching the amount of impact tracks from lets say Lady Gaga or similar. |

What about Gaia - Tuvan then?
You can't deny that it fits in what today is seen as trance.
2 unlimited had regular top40 chart hits, they were known. Armin doesn't have big number 1 or even top 10 hits. |

| it's a good read, i got to sit in a room w/ barefoot's and i all can say is "wow", you make such better mixing/eq/compression choices when you can hear music so clearly. someday! |

I would seriously give my soul to have a studio that amazing.
Regardless, I don't really like Armin's music, mostly because I don't like most vocal trance and he insists on having vocalists on friggen everything. If there MUST be vocals I find vocals fit better on house. Please excuse Just Be and Castles In the Sky from those previous statements.
After reading that article, though, I really like him even though I'm not a fan of his music. He seems honest. |
