we are not in the business of originality and new-thinking. why change something that works right? edms evolution is just that, an evolution, not an revolution. it changes slowly but steadily to adapt to the societys losers, so depending on who are the losers (in the 90s it was the hippies) the music changes. right now its the hipsters, hence minimal is popular. or not. haha.

It gets discussed a lot, the "originality, do something new and win the freaking jackpot" -bit. Think it like that and EDM as a whole seems like an empty milked withered titty with its dead mice and all. At least for me.

its what i like about it imo. i dont need to change things that works before i get tired of it. its like jello, a viscose mass of slow changing zombie sound-style. i like the whole idea. i heard a track from 94 just recently which was just on par with todays standards within techhouse. pretty awesome. makes it more and more timeless.

I agree with you.

Are you serious? I can't tell on this one.
I think there was a thread in the MD forum about this last week and the sentiments were along the lines of "what happened to 8th note Hau5? Why do these choons hurt my head and sound like having a root canal on a fatal dose of poppers"
I have to agree. That vocal is ing terrible, and frankly it's just a rip off Who Da Funk and Justice with a bit of tech thrown in.
It's not hard dance - it's vegas douchbag electro.
Real shame as I actually really like Joel and some of his productions are absolute ing genius.
I will however whole-heartedly agree with the assertion that people need to mix other types of genres or at least sub genres. Now a DJ's "signature" means nothing more than they play 12 similar tracks in 2 hours.
Listen to the essential mixes (from any dj) in the 90's and they are so damn varied, let alone a few differnt DJ's on the same roster, in the same club playing completely different music to each other.
Anyway what the has this got to do with Burren's new studio?
Kenny Rogers
his studio was so so we decided to talk about something else.

I really like it. It is just a bad ass sexy song. The syncopation of the lyric is so damn sassy , the one lead has this really nice distortion on it, the beat is simple and groovin. ANyways, Agree to disagree but that track is one of the few of his tracks that really stand out. That and strobe.

Cool studio, indeed.
A lot of arguments about Armin, and everybody has things to back up their opinion. I, for one, am a fan. I like him as a DJ and a producer. Now he may not be the guy he was when "Armin Van Buuren Remix" were words that put a smile on my face before I even listened to the song, but I thought "Mirage" was easily his best artist album since "76". His music still sounds like trance. Yeah, sure, maybe a little poppy, but still trance. I also like that he's always seemed like a nice guy.

I have the issue here. I was extremely shocked to see that full-on article in a serious magazine such as SoS, but it also proves their opening for other things.
I won't comment on style, choices in life, that's his decisions after all. But if he ever sells the JD800, I'll give him a call. ROFL

the track itself it's not bad, the idea is cool but the farty electro is so annoying :S Deadmau5 has a track (Deadmau5 & Mellefresh - Hey Baby or even the famous Not Exactly) where he plays with the progressive distortion of the sound, that kind of build up again and again is floor killer but it's like twisting the eqs up and down in the mixer making like a WAH effect , sounds cool for a moment but ends being annoying if it last for so long.
Yesterday a track came to my mind that was very interesting in this discussion , i can't remember now ... will edit if i ever remember it.
