The FW stuff is awesome and true. The wide range of talent they bring in keeps it interesting and the vibe they have in Toronto is rare elsewhere.
And amen on bottle service. Still don't understand it. Sitting in the corner of the room sipping on booze and relaxing? That's what predrinking is for. Once you're in the club you should be on them feet dancing.

It is good that Footy is doing so well but to call it the benchmark???
And I wonder if she's buddy buddy with these other acts cause I've never heard of them either and to not mention Carlo is just wrong...
I also agree with disliking bottle service but to ask if anybody still thinks it's a good idea? Ask club management. I'm sure they love the idea. But who cares about them right??
i'd like to see some numbers, but based on what we know about bottle service i'm pretty sure club management would be perfectly fine without it.

Exactly. Just because you haven't heard of the artists in the article, doesn't mean its validity should be discounted. The club events that are regularly reported on in the Eye are way beyond the scope of what is normally talked about on this board, so it only makes sense that a lot of the artists cited in the article may not be recognizable to people who don't really pay attention to music beyond this board or "the scene".
And congratulations to Footwork. It is definitely deserved.

3. In a year when the words "rave" and "raving" returned to the clubber’s lexicon, it’s no surprise that drum & bass—the genre that was, perhaps more than any other, at the heart of Toronto’s rave scene at its peak in the mid-'90s—made a strong comeback in this breakbeat-loving town. Jungle and d&b never fully faded here, but did move from venues holding thousands to hundreds (or less). The popularity of dubstep and bass music helped turn new audiences onto rugged club sounds—and reminded older heads of why they’d fallen for d&b in the first place. Parties under banners like Projek, Soul In Motion, Theory and Legacy have increased in size and frequency; local d&b producers like Gremlinz, Stranjah, Marcus Visionary and NC-17 continue to release internationally; and Torontojungle.com’s busy message boards demonstrate the site’s importance as a hub.
Jungle still has a huge following...especially online (DogsOnacid.com). Projek aka Destiny have taken big steps in the d&b scene this year. I see Marcus Visionary mentioned up there too.. funny story: when I first heard of 'raves' it was around 1992-93 and it was from Marcus' future partner (Nemesis) in our Computer Science class in high school. lol

lol, that's not what I meant. Azari & III and Crystal Castles are hardly underground.

The term "hipster" used as a negative connotation gets thrown around way too much. It is not even really relevant here.
